I assume you and others realize that missing 6” due to sleet is deceptive since water content is same and sleet is more durable and problematic on roads than snow. Shouldn’t warning threshold in theory be lower if % that’s sleet is higher? Example: 3” snow and 2” of sleet (5” total) is a bigger deal on roads than 6” or even 7” of pure snow.

 Opinions?

Totally.  6” of powder is no big deal.  But if you get a chunk of icy stuff and lower totals it is definitely a bigger deal.

Not sure I even ended up with 4-5” here but anyways, I think this storm went about as well as it could have forecasting wise. I love these storms because there are so many different processes involved and it really takes a good bit of time to digest everything and then try and simulate in your head how things will play out.

I don't think I had four. I'm going with 3.5.....just to our West had that though.

Glad you posted 3.5"...that's about what I was getting but I didn't really have an accurate way to measure. The yard still had a good solid 1-2" of iced snow so I used a table I have but it doesn't have a snow board so I wasn't sure if I would have been off by a bit...but when I measured I got about 3.5".

I should have went with the 3-6 I wanted too

Maybe we will get a good surprise before winter ends. One can only hope.

Would be nice.

But I'm not going to complain too much about these last few events, we have to take what we can get. We wanted an active weather pattern and we've certainly got it. If the next 6 weeks is a slew of 3-6" events...I'll gladly take it.

GFS QPF was bong worthy down there. This was your 00z 12hr QPF with the event already underway and then actual totals.

It actually had the right idea with the band and heavier amounts on the south coast of CT and LI but was way too wet everywhere else in SNE especially Mass

The last system had higher societal impact around here than last nights storm, even though it dropped half the amount of snow.  Partially because it was during the week but the cold temps and hours of freezing drizzle, did the trick from a sensible weather standpoint.
