I've been in ice storms and when it pours you can almost see the trees turning white and sagging. I remember in I think 1993 we had a real ice storm. Only one I've ever seen that didn't melt at the end of the storm. I remember 18 degrees and pouring rain. The cold snap that followed kept the trees coated for about a week. It was beautiful. That cold shot was the coldest I've ever seen in this area.

There is a better chance we pick up a coating to an inch of snow first with this system. Also temps get well into the 20's overnight Friday into Saturday and it does seem to be juicing up. Never know with a zr. event. Should be interesting. At least it's on the weekend.

TSSN+
Confused what the nws is looking at for this event here. Lwx and Ctp only show .10-.15” zr on grids with no snow or sleet really and mostly plain rain. I don’t think one model shows much plain rain at all for this one. Scarlet Pimpernel
4 minutes ago, stormtracker said: NAM is like...some snow to start then zr? It also still looks remarkably cold through 18Z Sat. Surface freezing line is well south of the DC area, in fact the 30F line is south as well. I have a growing sense that this event might well sneak up on us more than it seems, and be a little more significant as well. 1

NorthArlington101
This is a legit impactful event, I think. People will wake up to it tomorrow. Temps are a little bit on the edge but consistently sub freezing. Daylight hours are one of the things working against it, but I’ve already moved off my Saturday night plans.

NorthArlington101
UKIE gives us generally 1” for this one. Would love some measurable vs. ice.
NorthArlington101
EURO c-0.5” and then some actual ice… not super wet but actually cold. Legit .1-.2” of ice. 1
mappy
Not sure how much of this snow output is actually snow, but could be a nice burst of it for someone before the flip to sleet
aldie 22
Saturday is definitely starting to look a little more interesting. I still keep thinking from that Tomer Burg post that the stronger Saturday is the more south the cold for Tuesday
