Storm over for me as of about 8:15 am when it went to 33F and light rain and it's over for most of CNJ (especially along/SE of 95), at least; final measurement was 0.4" of mostly sleet, bringing my winter total up to 11.1". Temps up to 33-35F along and SE of 95 with light rain falling and the radar looks like the worst of the precip is over, although we still might get another 0.1-0.2" of rain - and this is very likely still sleet or maybe freezing rain 15-20 miles NW of 95 (i.e., a Doylestown to Morristown to Mahwah line where it's still in the 30-32F range and further NW of there where it's in the upper 20s.

Just a reminder when people complain about school closings this kinda stuff happens far more often when we get just a little bit of winter weather.

Good catch... in fact I think it I known though I dont have the stats at hand that most of the of accidents occur in advisory criteria OR LESS snow/ice.  When its blinding out folks dont travel and reduce risk.

AND

most of our snow events, I think Don can vouch for this again,  most of our daily snowfalls are under 3", even out here in rural nw NJ.

VERRRRY Good catch.

Freezing rain now. 29. Roads are a mess

Same here neighbor… just took the dog out and may or may not have fallen on my ass. Much worse around here than I expected, but makes sense with the ice being the more dominant precip type.

You may not fed that parts of interior se NYS and far nw NJ have gone over to a fine small flake light snow since *A.

When you're on the margins, it takes far too much work to examine very location but this is vicinity where I live from the HRRR.  Attached the high RH which is still up to 400MB,  vertical profile below freezing for an hr or two near 13z all the way up, and the Omega which is poking up into the ideal DGZ that is saturated for couple hours now and so it's snowing. HRRR picked up on. it.

Summary on this late today or tomorrow will affirm the NAM overall was best on warm nose, and the widespread 0.2-0.8"sleet that occurred this morning.  Frequently it is best on this.  The problem, if its too warm, suddenly you are plowing 2" instead of sliding on 1/2" of ice pellets.

My previous post kind of shows that the heavier modeling missed by a degree or 2 in the mid levels.

I think. ut not absolutely sure,  a light rain after days of none... road oils not washed away but wet.... a bit more slippery.

PATCHY dense fog, in other words highly variable traveling vsby is a problem cause drivers are not quite as cautious and they can quickly lose situational awareness.

Move the map to your area of interest...

The above link (in case you dont have it)... change it to whatever hours check you want... today I'd cut it back to 12 hour reports.  Then hover your cursor over all the reports.  You got ice and you sleet and snow accums.  They also show up on the right side, nice to have when you zoom to your area.

Good point, I seen numerous spin outs and minor fender benders on the Merritt Pkwy earlier this AM. Auto body shops don't mind seeing this kind of weather.

33 and rain. Probably a good call on the delay, was icy. Looks like a 1/2” of snow/sleet. streets are still slushy.

things brings me to 10” even on the season. Talk about nickel and diming it…

This local suburb has an inch of sleet and snow and the roads are treacherous. Guess its a nice reminder this isnt all about ones backyard.

Yep BX and people were arguing about should the schools be closed here ( New City ),,,,,I think they did right by calling for 2 hour delays last night and then this morning they saw what we were dealing with and they decided to close for the day,,,,good call as its crappy out there

Isn't Rockland or is Wedstchester, home of snowman?  I guess I could mistaken. Any clarifications?

I believe he claimed to live in Sloatsburg which is up near Suffern so that would be a yes to Rockland

,,,,,,,,I am in New City not far from there and I can confirm that my roads are an icy mess
