Fwiw- interesting microclimate observation. made a trip to Greensboro this am - in the vicinity of US70 & Huffine Mill Rd. There was a noticeable amount of ice in the tops of the trees just north of US70. Nothing on surface and did not notice ice anywhere else b/t west side of GSO and Burlington. Back home and noticing that small little area is roughly 40-100’ higher elevation than anywhere else in the immediate area. Cool!

Ice accumulations were elevation-dependent around my area. The elevation at my location is 700 ft, and there was only some light icing in the tops of the trees. I drove around and found that roughly 800 ft was the cutoff for decent icing. Areas above 800 ft saw around .10", and once above 1000 ft. 25" to .50" accumulations could be found. The highest accumulations I found were near Chestnut Knob in Ridgeway, Va., at an elevation of 1,400 ft.

The misery rain continues here in Raleigh.

Stuck under 40 degrees for two full days with nearly 2” of liquid and all of about 10 min of a wintry mix to show for it. We’ll get our revenge next week when we get 15” of snow though

I won't vouch for the perfection of my setup-but I measured 3 inches in Garner

I was at Hanging Rock by Moore's Wall and they got hit pretty hard. I would say max ice totals of around 0.5-0.75 inches with 0.25-0.4 a little lower down. It varied quite a bit depending on the exact terrain etc. Pics to come.

Reporting from St. Louis. 34deg and .....

I'm one mile from KSUS, Spirit of St. Louis airport in Chesterfield at my daughter's house.

For the first time in my life, THUNDERSLEET !

Walked the dog outside as it was very lightly sprinkling rain, could see lightning and hearing occasional thunder and then "Bam!" and the lightning shook the ground. I was startled but, almost like it shook the sleet from the clouds, the sound of "shlllllleeeeettt" hitting the ground like it had been dropped from a bomb bay stopped me in my tracks. Only lasted for about 20 seconds but, wow.

Too cool.

And, yes, the dog was more than ready to go back inside, looking at me like, "What the heck are you looking at and smiling ??!!"
