It’s a question of whether you think it’s existential or not. As someone who has looked into other citizenship options, well, idk man. This place is a great spot for me to go and not here politics considering my job is entirely politics at a highly politicized agency. But I get it. No shame. What you did or didn’t do when shit goes down is all that matters if the shit goes down

I will say getting off almost every social media has helped me not get sucked into a doom cycle. It’s not necessarily good to be in the doom hole. Gotta balance being informed with feeling like the world is ending 24/7

Your points here are valid and line up well with this video from 9:56 onto a bit. Wish the moderators would watch it to (instead of ignore the issues and most likely delete this post) get an idea of why being an apolitical forum just promotes a slide to the right.

I’m actually a sociologist when I’m not pretending to be a meteorologist.  Don’t worry H2O I just came by to send a few last PMs. I’ll be out of your hair soon.

Years ago I posted a lot of political things on Facebook. But I really haven’t posted at all in years. 2 weeks ago I deleted my account to prevent all that from being used against me. Also took my Twitter account private. I very much hear the arguments about getting off twitter to not support that man, but I’ve muted enough words and blocked enough accounts that it’s comparatively peaceful. Bluesky is telling me to man the barricades.

I'm assuming you meant not feeling like the world is ending 24/7? Lol And you're absolutely right--since November this is probably the least amount of news I've consumed. It's better just to get the main points...just digest what's necessary and not go swimming in it. Gotta take care of your mental health, otherwise you'll be even less equipped to deal with whatever comes. Besides, being down and stressed 24/7 is kinda like letting the bad win out--don't give them that satisfaction :)

nah.. that 50% approval is steadily dropping :)    Good for us retired Air Traffic Controllers

lol we might need some of you to tap back in.  My wife is already telling me she wants to cancel all the trips we have planned this year that involve flying (mostly out of DCA).

I probably should apologize since I think it was my post that kicked this off and I definitely didn't mean to.  Yall know I hate talking politics over here and my intent was to highlight and focus the incredible misery and suffering happening, especially to my bf's mom.  I didn't mention any politician by name, but I can certainly see how it could have been inferred.   I was just lamenting how crushed she is.  She served her country in the military and now overseas in civil service with exemplary service and now she's just....gone.  Was just talkin it out with ol' friends (you all) because it indirectly affects me because now the bf is pretty down seeing his mom so low.  It just sucks all around.  I also have friends who worked in civil service for decades, just doing their jobs and now face financial anxiety.  It just worries me.

We need a goddamn snowstorm.   Might be a come to Jesus moment for me.  And by Jesus, I mean our waiter from last week.

I appreciate this form for what it is and what you’ve made it Randy. Politics would destroy it. Snow :weenie:‘s  have bad enough meltdowns on snowstorms, politics would just be atrocious. With that said i hope your bf’s mom finds a new and rewarding job asap.

I don’t see why it’s so fucking hard to respect Randy and the admins and staff who just want the weather side to be free of the toxic shit. Goddamn. Stop making it hard on the people who provide a place for people who love weather to shoot the shit

I get it - and I agree!  But what happens when they wind down NOAA and the NWS?  We can't talk about it?

Yeah I brought this up earlier. Its gonna happen, and this is a science based weather forum. Taking the chainsaw to NOAA isn't pertinent or discussion worthy?

you can present the fact that it happened. but you can’t offer an opinion about what happened.

I do wish there was a way on the forum to separate out the politics and just factually discuss the effects of climate change on our future weather in the MA, but it does seem a very perilous endeavor and probably isn't worth the effort to thread that needle.

Oddly enough I worked there 1998 to 2008. Transferred out to  Potomac Tracon out in Vint Hill VA where I ultimately retired in 2023.  Flying is still safe.  The FAA is going to be pulled through the ringer for allowing that helo operation.  I hated it when I worked there.  We were always taught to use positive control on the Helo's when they were near the airport. The controller did almost everything correctly and even reached out to the helo to ask if he had the arrival in sight and to pass behind.  The problem was, the helo had the wrong aircraft.

Climate change is settled science though. That's all that matters on a scientific, fact based forum. The politicization of it is completely irrelevant. I mean, some believe the earth is flat, but that is factually incorrect.

I totally agree with you, if we could just separate out the *cause* of it from the fact that it is actually happening and always has happened and always will happen that would be great.  But alas politics always inserts itself as it's been so weaponized.

the air traffic through there is completely insane.  Needs to be completely re-designed.

Clearly the climate has changed over the history of Earth. Not even disputable. The reasons are varied. Its mind boggling that so many want to deny that the reason its changing now is largely attributed to the industrial age.

Due to my situation, I guess, I spend a lot of time in my own head philosophizing about our (Earth's) place in the universe and humanity's position in it all.   I have strong ideas about the industrial age and humanity's future but they probably wade into treacherous waters on the forum so I can't expand too much on it.  I have a large print of Pale Blue Dot hung in my home office and whenever I need some grounding or humbling I stare at it for about ten minutes.  Really puts things in perspective.
