Nothing about the fucked up political situation is going to be fixed by bringing it here though. Unfortunately nearly half this country thinks what's going on is awesome. Engagement is futile. This is simply and sadly where we are at.

Yup. I come here to escape it all. I have other mediums to read about this stuff. I want this to stay weather related with friendly banter in this thread. If anyone ever wants to chat about anything else, I'm always down to meet and have a drink and chat. I like civil discourse about politics, but some places I want to get away from it all.

I wasn't referring to approval rating. That is historically bad for this early in a presidency. I meant nearly half of the electorate actually voted for this shit.

We had an Off topic  section for it, but it got too much to manage.   You can discuss limited stuff like impacts to you and what not, but no cheering or assailing political people. This isn’t some well thought out plan. It’s just something I came to last night. I don’t know if I’ll reconsider eventually but for now this is where I am.   

I vehemently disagree with the contention that “this isn’t the place”. No this isn’t the only place. But it’s a place and that makes it the right place.  There is a concerted effort to undo a lot of the progress our society has made over the last 100 years and that effort is not just political it’s cultural.  And that fight is happening everywhere and yes even a weather board can’t pretend it’s not going to be part of it. Even if that part is to simply decide not to push back. Not to resist and try to impede this movement.
 

Lastly this policy is harmful because this movement to undo much of our society has been masterful at manipulating narrative. It’s happening on this board. I had to wade through a page “thermometers weren’t accurate” BS last month as of we don’t know what that was about. Then when people started to push back the “no politics” comes out and everything gets deleted.  A sports discussion starts having complaints about woke athletes or canadiens booing us then the retorts are “politics”.  They aren’t that subtle about injecting their narrative into the discussions knowing that they are protected from being directly called to the mat for utterly indefensible positions by the fact they can shut it down at any moment with “no politics”.

Theyve made everything politics. Healthcare, vaccines, climate, sports, religions, economics, math for F sake…everything they won’t want to be challenged on is “political” now. 
 

by not engaging you are playing into exactly what this movement wants.   They want space to normalize their unacceptable and in many cases illogical or worse openly bigoted views. They want to make it acceptable to say things that should be shamed. We play into their hands when we allow that. When we don’t shame them. When we don’t push back and say “this is not ok, not here not anywhere” Not in this society!  They’re winning the war for this nations soul because way too many people aren’t willing to fight for it.  
 

That is where I am right now. Again this wasn’t some long thought out thing. It came to me last night when people were sharing such personal feelings of pain and sadness and it got shut down by the same old “no politics”. That’s exactly what they want. To cover up all the pain they cause. To silence the dissent to what they’re doing. They shouldn’t be immune from it anywhere not even a weather forum. They want to F around they should have to find out. Anywhere and everywhere.  There shouldn’t be anywhere that “isn’t the right place”  to let these fuck wads who are actively trying to tear our society apart know!  
 

If that means I can’t be a part of this community anymore I understand. I hold no ill feelings towards the mods who are in a tough spot.  But I have to do what my conscious says is right. I hope to see some of you on Facebook or twitter for now. I’ll try to post more often and get it active again.

Above is a case in point.  We can't even talk ABOUT talking about politics without a fight.  I think in the history of the Internet only 37 people have ever had their minds changed about politics as a result of fighting about it on the Internet.  It's just not a productive use of calories and cortisol.

The storm (window) claim thing is super amusing lately. I mean I had the one in 2022, but to be fair we were in a complete shit the blinds pattern of despair when I saw the potential way out. And it actually happened. That is my one and only "storm claim". And it was more of a recognition of a major pattern change along with the potential to produce a snowstorm pretty quickly. I retired after that one.

No, by stating engagement is futile we are giving into the environment they want to create. We aren't past the Rubicon yet, but if we believe we can't change anything than we might as well be.

I hear ya.  I was being a little snarky and humorous with all the semi-political talk so I dropped that line!  But seriously, I kind of agree with you.  That storm this week kinda let a lot of air out for sure.  I don't hold any great hopes, but I'll lightly follow things and if something "real" shows up then I'll go all in with tracking it and see what happens.  I really think we're good for one more decent event the first part of March.  That may be a vain hope (most likely?!) of course!

Haha, right now it's NOBODY's storm!!  If it exists, even!  Honestly, I don't care "who's storm" it is, if we get one!  As I replied to @stormtracker, I'm going to lightly follow things and see, and will still sort of hold out hope for something decent in early March.

Your points here are valid and line up well with this video from 9:56 onto a bit. Wish the moderators would watch it to (instead of ignore the issues and most likely delete this post) get an idea of why being an apolitical forum just promotes a slide to the right.

It’s a question of whether you think it’s existential or not. As someone who has looked into other citizenship options, well, idk man. This place is a great spot for me to go and not here politics considering my job is entirely politics at a highly politicized agency. But I get it. No shame. What you did or didn’t do when shit goes down is all that matters if the shit goes down
