Nice taste of spring today in the Ohio Valley, with some record highs being met or exceeded. Enjoy the warmth because it might be short-lived. I believe this is what they call "false spring" in these parts.

As of the top of the hour,

Columbus, Ohio was up to 63F, tying the record set on this date in 2020 and 1890;

Dayton, Ohio was up to 65F, beating the prior record of 62F set in 2020 and 1927;

Cincinnati, Ohio was up to 66F, tying the record set in 1883;

Indianapolis, Indiana was up to 67F, tying the record set in 2020;

South Bend, Indiana was up to 55F, tying the record set in 2020;

Evansville, Indiana was up to 72F, breaking the record of 70F set in 2020;

Paducah, Kentucky was up to 71F, tying the record set in 2020;

Jackson, Kentucy was up to 70F, breaking the record of 69F set in 2020; and

Lexington, Kentucky was up to 71F, breaking the record of 70F set in 1890.

The temperature at Louisville stood at 73F, one shy of the 2020 record value.

Any other record reports out there?

Hey, if it's not going to snow, might as well climb well into the 60s!

Snowfall has been bad around Northern Ohio the past few years. Its all relative though... 50" of snow in the snowbelt just east of Cleveland is considered a bad Winter. There are areas east of Cleveland that have likely had 90"+ already this Winter so the airport location is not a great representation of the entire area. 34 straight days of snowcover imby this year so no complaints compared to the past two winters.

TCCs M.O. is posting xmacis graphs, and we all know it involves tons of cherry picking (ie: picking the snowiest period of record for Charleston WV and comparing it to Detroit) but he doesnt seem to understand how weather actually works. Just a few days ago he was complaining how lake effect snow is "fake" by posting snowfall and snow depth of lake and non lake effect areas. Apparently now that goes out the window when discussing Cleveland lol.

Cleveland is in a lake effect snowbelt, though the eastern burbs of Cleveland get more than the airport. An easy way to actually understand climate is when comparing Cleveland, Chicago, and Detroit.

Cleveland typically gets plenty of LES but is the warmest of the 3 cities...Chicago hardly gets any LES except for the occasional band, but is the coldest of the 3 cities. Detroit gets lots of lake effect flakes but this typically only several inches of snow are direct LES. Cleveland's average winter temp is over 2F warmer than Detroit, and over 3F warmer than Chicago. Historically, while averaging notably more snowfall than Detroit (and Chicago), Cleveland and Detroit average around the same amount of days annually with snow on the ground, and this is only a handful of days more annually than Chicago (despite Chicago averaging well less snow than Cleveland).

Lake effect snow is fun, it certainly isnt "fake" but it definitely is a different kind of snow, which is why IMO its always important to have accurate numbers for liquid precip, snowfall, and snow depth.

I work right by a window looking out into my backyard. The yard is now frozen brown/yellow/pale green grass with a few snow piles and I am always reminded how much I HATE looking at bare ground after a prolonged period of snowcover, even not deep. I mean, it sucks anytime, but its less of an "ugh" factor when you have only had snowcover for a few days.

Still haven't covered the grass here this season.  Think our heaviest snowfall so far has been 1.3" lol.  Only been briefly white a handful of times.  Most pathetic winter I've seen hands down.

What’s worse to you, a winter like this one that has had its share of winter like cold but dry or a mild winter with the same amount of snow but not dry with a lot of cold rain?

I would say this is worse, as if it were wet at least the moisture would be beneficial.  The best thing about this winter is there hasn't been any heartbreaks from last minute system shifts, as there's been basically nothing to track.

I hate even trying to pick one. But I still think I'd pick cold. Hopefully you'll get hit soon!

2/7-2/8 is looking like a good hit for MSP. GFS and Euro both in agreement with 0.50”+ of precipitation and SLRs of 15:1-20:1. I’d start a thread but it would be an echo chamber of me. Time to get the powder skis waxed.

Michigan definitely in the game for Sat too. But no idea if I'll see snow or snow/sleet/freezing rain.

Almost as frustrating in a season where snow depth is at a premium is weeks of NWS offices map showing barely any snow OTG in yby when you've had a decent snow pack all the while. FINALLY after yesterday's decent hit, something snapped their satellite back to reality and I have a much more accurate map for Harrison

Those type of maps always need to be taken with a grain of salt. Especially season snowfall maps.

1) I've followed it for years and this is the first time I've seen it glitch horribly like that. Even the NOHRS map showed nothing here. Makes me wonder if the satellite indeed had an issue. 2) I have eyes on the ground for this region, so I'm not guessing as to whether its correct here or not, I can see plainly where its missing the mark.

Looking at a few inches starting later today. Already some light LES falling which is a good sign. RH levels are running a little low in the region, so synoptics are going to have to deal with that first, but with low level moisture on the Lake, potentially better scenario for me. I hope anyway. Need lots more snow. :)

That's about how it has been in my area as well. This has been the worst winter I've ever witnessed.
