Top 5 warmth yesterday across most of MN, and WI. Felt nice. Big water puddles around here as temps reached 47 here in town. A nice ending to the month with the last week having temps in the 30's & 40's. After a month of really bitter wx, this is great. :)

First 50F at DTW since Dec 28th. In 2 days it went from a complete deep winter look to just big dirty snowbanks, piles, puddles, and a few drifts/patches today. Was expected, but still sucks.

Sucks? Feels so nice to drive with the windows down again

To each their own lol. Seeing lots of snow melt for 1 or 2 days of worthless warmth is not my bag.

At least it’s going to be March later this week so you know daily snow melting season is just about here. That’s better than when you lose a good snowpack in like mid January.

That's a good point. It's that awkward time of year where us snowcover lovers, barring a 2014 repeat, can kiss sustained snowpack goodbye, but you still have over 1.5 months of potential to get a good snowfall.

That’s crazy. We are still running almost 4 degrees below average for February here after -2.3 degrees in January and only .6 degrees above average for December.

December finished above average for us with a mean temperature of 30.9F. Our average is 28F. So close to 3 degrees above average. January finished right at average.

In terms of cold, this winter has been subpar. Our average Jan low is -10C (14F) and we only hit -10C a total of 11 times. For some perspective, we got below -10C, 21 times in January 2022.

February 2025 was a crazy month for us. We got 31" in a week with a peak snow depth around 26". Some pictures I took last week after all the storms. The highest snowbanks and depth I've ever seen here.

Would be nice to get a Illinois - Michigan-Ontario special next.

Went to check on a couple of my favorite local fishing spots today, couple of 100+ year old spring fed gravel pits.  1 is about 10 acres the other about 15. They are both 80 to 100 feet deep in spots. I was amazed, both still completely frozen over. They haven't been frozen completely over this late since I can remember. Not even 2017-18, there were significant areas of open water over the deeper pools even then. Not this year, they are still solid enough I chucked a baseball size rock as far as I could and it didn't break through.

One of the pits I know where there's a shallow (maybe 3ft deep at high water) bar. Its the bed of the old road the vehicles drove on to get to the "pedestal" that the main shovel sat on in the middle and loaded them. Lots of gravel pits have these and if you know where they are can catch some 5lb'ers (thats big for my neck o the woods lol) by dropping a Texas Rig along them during really early spring. I usually start the first week of March, they've been spawning progressively earlier over the last 15 years.

Well today, I walked out probably 50ft over that shallow bar and nary heard a crack (had my waders on lol). Probably coulda ice skated over it. I know its melting but man. Every creek and stream is still frozen except White River and it's still 100% in some areas but I've noticed its going pretty quick now here.. I'm really surprised how much ice is still around. Glad my heart won't let me ice fish anymore, that mighta been MN ice fishing this year... well may WI lol.

On a side note, spring 2018 was one of the best Morel seasons in recent memory, lets hope this past deep freeze wakes them up, been pretty disappointing the last 2 years at least for me :tomato:

Have had nearly 150% of avg snow for Feb. But, like D & J, lets see how much we can melt away in the final few days of the month. (SMDH)

Same thing here.  December and January started out with snow and melted it all off in the final few days.  February is starting to feel like the movie Groundhog Day.

Had pillowcases falling from the sky earlier today, enough evap cooling for an hour or so of MASSIVE snowflakes (pic doesn't do justice). Picked up 0.6" of slushy snow here and 0.5" DTW. Pretty much a narrow area from Monroe and Adrian to Ann Arbor and DTW had the accumulating wet snow. North and South of there was just light rain, and the snow turned to light rain once intensity lightened. Season to date snowfall 27.5" here with 26.5" DTW.

DTX earlier:

A narrow band of heavy snow embedded within a broader band of
rain will track across Metro Detroit over the next 1 to 2 hours.
Where snow develops, large flakes may reduce visbility to less
than 1 mile and lead to minor slushy accumulations. Temperatures
will remain above freezing through the aftenoon, but heavy snow
may still lead to some slick spots. Drivers should exercise
caution.

had some giant floofs with the band that moved through between 2 and 3PM, no accumulation but easy on the eyes. backyard temp was 38°. the band around 6PM produced just rain, temp was 36°. currently some mist with visibility down to half a mile at PTK.

Got just under 2" of heavy wet snow this morning from the weak system that went through. Most of it melted as temperatures rose to 41 this afternoon. Snowpack down to 8" now.

Might get 2" tomorrow with the clipper before temperatures crash Saturday. YYZ should be able to break the all time snowiest Feb on record (2008 with 30.2").
