Looks like we open the month with snow to sleet to rain or some variation of that

Good to see that HP in southeast Canada on CMC - GFS also shows a storm to open the month

The AO is dropping toward neutral, however not negative, during this time frame. We would be relying on the vortex south of Greenland to hinder too much of a Northward trajectory.

Perhaps a met can a opine on the feasibility of this.

maybe Groundhog Day storm redux

still too far out to determine exactly how this is going to set up - no consistency in the Euro yet - different solution then last nights - complex to say the least.....

February on track for a canonical Niña response. Very well coupled ocean-atmosphere system going into next month

All depends on the MJO. Are you finally going to be right with the warmth?

Seems to be alot of uncertainty for February. We have been mostly cold in December and January has been even colder.  I think Mother Nature is throwing a few curve balls this year and we will remain colder than predicted this winter.

Perhaps but of note is that most of the time when December and January are cold, February is milder.  Maybe just normal weather though, which is just fine as long as it snows.

IMO February is setting up to be a real battle between the constant cold air intrusions and a strengthening southern stream - plenty of storm chances....2009 -2010 featured below normal temp December and January with only a couple inches snow in January then the battle began and we ended up with 36 inches of snow in February with continued below normal temps - cold and snowiest Feb ever........

That must've been the last time all three winter months were colder than normal, I can't remember any others since our great wall to wall winters (1995-96 and 2002-03).
