Really trying to be optimistic this winter. These "waiting on the cold" events are so dicey and I'm rooting for the lowlands this time around.

I just want a nice covering of the white stuff before the arctic air arrives. 8 minutes ago, SomeguyfromTakomaPark said: Yeah, I’m def in chips fall mode although I was always seeing this as a 2-4 deal with some potential upside. If we get shut out completely I’d be disappointed but I don’t see that. I still think the upside is possible, if we get that nice banding along the front it can drop 1-2 inch per hour rates. 3 minutes ago, CAPE said: Same. Cover the bare spots and give the existing stale snow over a fresh look. Yes to all this. I could go dig posts up, but have said from beginning this was a 2/4 event with a 3/6 potential, MAYBE a jackpot 7 somewhere for y'all northern folks. Still 33 here, hung right at freezing overnight. Lost 25-30% of snowpack in last 24 hours after a small 'padder' yesterday morning, still have 2-4 OTG. I was never in the large numbers with this, still am not. Just gonna enjoy the snow/sleet that falls and watch the bare spots fill in again before we go super chilly.

Kmlwx
Sitting at 35.4 on the Ambient and 33.1 on the cheaper brand thermometer right now. I did not expect to wake up to steady snowfall by any means. I think we obviously might be hard pressed to get 5 inches...but to those realists out there - I'm not sure much has changed appreciably. It wasn't even supposed to "crank" until the afternoon. But naturally the worriers will wring their hands and anxious-post all morning. It's going to snow for most of us - how much remains to be seen - but arctic cold is arriving. Can you imagine how bad it would be in here if we had nonstop 60s and shut the blinds?

Probably won't take too much to start getting some sort of frozen, but I was hoping to have the surface temperatures closer to freezing for everyone.

Once the rates come, temps are gonna drop and fast. Entire column is cold enough, except the bottom portion of the boundary layer. May lose just <0.1” qpf because of that, nbd. Just means we probably won’t hit the high end of the forecast

I come in here this morning and it's all doom and gloom, yet I don't see all that much different from several hours ago late last night. Geez, can we just let this happen how it will and try to have fun with whatever we end up with? I've always thought this would be a general 2-4" event, maybe 5-6" in some spots, but too many seem to think everyone is getting warning-level snows.
