I would argue the brine is excessive and we have a tendency to over applicate. I had brine from last winter get all up inside my engine unknown to me and destroy it, corroded oil lines and was shooting oil all over my driveway when it finally snapped. 

I don’t have the answer, but I think what they’re currently doing is a touch overzealous. 

Mix in beet juice and less salt is needed and it makes the salt used more effective without the corrosive properties of salt.
