This Atlantic low will go on to cause damaging winds (70-110 knots) in Ireland on Friday. ... model consensus is that it deepens to 940 mbs near 20W and core of strongest winds slams into west coast of Ireland 0600 Friday. ... moderate to extreme damage is possible in western counties and could in worst case model scenarios extend across to Dublin also.

OKX radar showing Long Island lake effect light snow shower fragments translating east along the edge of the virga shield across Li. Take a look. I think the EC had this in some prior cycles for 00z/22.

Not seeing any flurries out here Walt. Radar does have an interesting look though

Maybe a flurry here or blowing snow?

Are you on LI? Still nothing here at all, but if this is a dusting for the extreme coast + LI -> SEMA only I’m probably just a bit too far inland. Radar looks well offshore  and like it’s virga anyway, would’ve been cool to see a flake or two but wasn’t expecting anything.

Probably will be little more than a coating around Montauk (ending soon) but the Cape and Islands could get an inch or three.

That’s good for them, I don’t think the cape got really anything in that last event. I kept checking their thermals and they were pretty torched even way later on.

For my area, blowing salt.  The streets are so white, you would swear it was covered in ice or snow.  The salt will be here for weeks now, getting in animals' feet, our shoes, cars, storm sewers, rivers, streams, drinking water...

Thank you ALL very much for all YOUR reports.  Posting NWS storm reports south of Toms River, and the CoCoRaHs, plus the KBID observation (ignore their Trace melted-no way trace and again another consideration when looking at METAR reports water equivalent below 30F.  Added KJPX (East Hampton LI)

It was close and we always knew from the outset headline it was fringe.

If any more reports just add em on.  Am basically done with this one.

I did check the originating ensemble guidance.  EPS was worst,  CMCE middle but way too much and the GEFS had a total miss and didnt bother to post it.

GEFS was best 24 hours in advance (much closer to T0 it recognized what would happen).

Don't forget the Con Ed manholes here in the city which will inevitably result in several manhole fires

It’s absurd.  Someone that works at my town’s Highway department was recently telling me about the large number of calls they get requesting road treatment in advance of every forecasted snowfall.   They are in a no-win situation.

they should just tell people to stay the hell home if they don't know how to drive in the snow.

I would argue the brine is excessive and we have a tendency to over applicate. I had brine from last winter get all up inside my engine unknown to me and destroy it, corroded oil lines and was shooting oil all over my driveway when it finally snapped.

I don’t have the answer, but I think what they’re currently doing is a touch overzealous.

Beet juice.  It makes salt work at a lower temperature and less salt is needed when beet juice is added.

  • Beet juice has been proven to lessen the corrosive properties of the salt that we use to apply to the roads.
