I'll be pleasantly surprised to see 4. NW has already got that. It's cold enough here, we just aren't getting banding. Not sure if it is getting here or not. In a way I'm glad as my wife is at the hospital visiting her sister who had a stroke. It's been tough.

Sorry to hear that.

Mt Pocono area 2.5". my space in southern Wantage NJ 5P report 1/19/25. 2.5". Includes 1.7" snow increase past hour. 26F.  Have seen a remark of over 3" in another part of Wantage.

The snow in Philly has become much larger, dendrites blowing around, it must be in the 20s down there now, the visibility is nearly zero on the football field!

I stand corrected, there is some snow in Manhattan now.

I'g guess a quarter inch of wet slop on the ground, maybe building up to as much as an inch if the radar holds.

Still not close to the 3-6" hoped for, but we'll be happy with what we got.

might be sleet here, whatever it is is making a loud gravelly kind of sound on my windows.

the Park and airports can get to 3 inches but not more than that.

You can all you want. I am here to try and clarify. Bitching here won’t get your feedback to where it needs to be.

In a little defense of the NWS... they work within the mapping constraints that are set by NWS region-nationally.

The forecast team answers your ph calls, including reports, they keep the forecasts updated as much as they can and then its out of their hands when all the updates transmit.  They keep the emergency managers updated including government officials.

Its sundown now and temps generally below freezing NJT westward into PA with wintry precip, mostly snow and some of that at rapid rates. If you go out in the next few hours and slide off the road or slip on the sidewalk, they did all they could to advise you. Forecasts are imperfect and sometimes forecasts are less than desired but I suggest ride this one out through 8PM.

For the most part I think this forecast is going to work out fine.  Some spots will be on low end of range and some spots close to high end.

Question if anyone sees 8" based on radar though.

My 4-6" forecast is going to work out fine for Morris county.  I am currently just a a little over 4.  Expect to finish near 6, maybe a bit more.

That swath of I95 just isn't performing right now though. Now some people said 7 pm here so we'll see. These kinds of events were typical of my childhood. Always was more north and west. I didn't care as long as I got the day off, which in Catholic schools didn't take much. We'd be closed and I'd watch the poor public schoolers trudging off in boots to a delayed opening. i didn't know yet they were having more fun in school.....

I'm sorry to hear of your sister-in-law's stroke. I wish her a full recovery.

Ripping at the Eagles game

Here's what I found out about why snow doesn't accumulate near the lines and numbers on the football field

https://www.quora.com/How-do-the-lines-on-the-football-field-stay-snow-free

Keeping the lines on a football field snow-free typically involves a combination of techniques and equipment. Here are some common methods:

  1. Field Heating Systems: Many professional and college football fields are equipped with heating systems beneath the turf. These systems can warm the ground and help prevent snow from accumulating on the field.
  2. Snow Removal Equipment: Grounds crews often use specialized snow removal equipment, such as snow plows or blowers, to clear the lines and the field quickly after a snowfall.
  3. Field Paint: The paint used for marking lines can be formulated to resist snow accumulation and can also be more visible against a snowy background.
  4. Maintaining Turf Conditions: Ensuring that the turf is in good condition can help with drainage and reduce snow accumulation. Proper maintenance practices can keep the grass healthy and more resistant to snow.
  5. Regular Monitoring: Grounds crews monitor weather conditions closely and may take preemptive actions, such as applying salt or sand, to prevent snow from sticking to the lines.

These methods help ensure that the lines remain visible and the field is playable, even during winter weather conditions.

Looking at DE and E MD that’s probably our chance to really accumulate east of the city when that pivots in. We need that to last a couple hours at least.

Have some confidence.  N shore of LI will do well... might see some 4 and 5s...not done there til at least 1A.
