Yeah, thats why I see more and more people with those little booties for their dogs.

i try and avoid walking on sidewalks with rock salt it is bad for your shoes and your floors..  i can understand why people use it if it is going to snow.. but to put it out when there is no precip just because temps are below freezing is nonsense..

I mentioned this earlier BUT someone please explain why Western Union County has Winter Storm Warnings in effect for 4-6 inches total and Eastern Union only has Winter Weather Advisory in effect for 4 -6 inches total ????

ZFP from KOKX

At one point, there was a sharp cutoff line running right through Union County. NWS is a little delayed with every tiny twist and turn.  The forecasts on the previous small events gave been pretty accurate this season, but I'm a little skeptical on this one...

looking at the radars right now - the western side of this setup modeled in west VA and Kentucky is not developing - one would not think a storm is less then 12 hours away from start time here.......

We have seen it before when a storm develops later than progged...

The Euro is actually a little further west than the CMC at 0z. The CMC has 6”+ and Euro 4”+ jackpot along those favored North Shore areas in Northern Nassau and NW Suffolk. The SPC HREF has a 6”+ potential in these areas also.

Or why is there a state of emergency for a minor snow event

Have you seen the way people drive anymore? Anything is a state of emergency these days. Stopped into a Wegman's ( a store I don't like by the way; overpriced, always low stock ) and the milks shelves were bare; worse, you could see stacks of it in storage but they wouldn't put it out because it was after 9 pm.

Just for giggles, given the increase in snowfall for many models, as well as the broader coverage with more snow and less rain from 95 SE to the coast (at least north of Toms River), I'm expecting the NWS to continue increasing snowfall totals. I'd go for 4-6" within 10-20 miles of 95 from Philly to NYC and for Monmouth County N of 195, with 2-4" for almost all of the rest of NJ, except maybe 1-2" for most of Cape May County and the NJ coast up to LBI. I would also keep the 6-8"+ area NW of 95, but probably move the 6" line SE 10-15 miles to maybe West Chester to New Hope to White Plains and I would have all of LI at 4-6", except eastern Suffolk at 3-4".

My guess is that this would mean warnings for the 95-adjacent counties from Philly/SNJ up through NYC and probably advisories for Mommouth, Ocean, SE Burlco and maybe Cumberland, but not Atlantic/Cape May; guessing LI might be 4-6" advisories but not warnings, but close call (like for Middlesex/Mercer, where warning criterion is 6" vs. 4" for counties south of 276/195, so the warnings would make sense for SEPA/SNJ.  Been wrong before on guessing NWS moves before, but I find it fun to guess.

Didn't notice anyone having posted the NWS maps, so posting them below along with the map of warnings/advisories.  Didn't do too badly last night, especially with the prediction on the NWS increasing snowfall amounts at 4 am.  Have fun kids - and make sure you shovel by the end of the storm if you get wetter/slushier snow, because that stuff will freeze solid overnight and will be there all week.

Thanks for posting. Seems to be tak of lesser amounts today but I don't see a real change. looks like a typical snow event to me. Someone is bound to get a little more or less. But I think around 4-5 is a good call. Someone I saw somewhere had a graphic from the midwest; storms are categorized as to how many milks, breads, or eggs you need to hoard...

Question for anyone; whenever I go to this site on my phone, I get a Tapatalk popup that I cannot get rid of, and hence cannot follow the site from a phone. Anyone who has any ideas how to rid myself of this? Showed it to my techie nephew and he was clueless.

Same problem for me.  It's horrible and I haven't been able to solve it.

Using chrome browser on iPhone I get the annoying pop up but it has option to “continue on chrome “

When you sign in ignore tapatalk and continue on safari, if your on an iPhone, you won't get it anymore. It drove me nuts for a month until I finally realized.

Some 6Z models backed off on precip/snow, but not the Euro/GFS, at least, and many forecasters rely on those two...also could just be a blip, so would imagine no forecast changes at this late point unless some big changes at 12Z...

Final call: No changes from yesterday afternoon to my map. I'm not buying into the NAM/GFS/HRRR hype, but think it's worth taking note of them being solutions if we have an all-snow event.

Otherwise, it's a plowable snow for all that will be sticking around for a long time given the bitter cold arriving. Worth noting there may be a screw zone somewhere on either side of I-95 due to subsidence between heavier bands. Likewise, anyone sitting under these heavy bands could pick up an extra inch or two if they remain stationary. Coastal areas will likely still have mixing issues at onset.

Enjoy everyone!

Problem is on both Safari and Chrome I can see the option to 'Continue on Safari' or 'Continue on Chrome'...but it's always partially covered by an ad, so there's no way to click it (and no obvious way to close the ad).

Crystal clear skies with a bright sunrise this morning.  Icy pavements finally melting a bit.

Leaving work this morning I nearly busted my arse:lol: with the moisture on the ground, I didn’t think it was icy, but sure enough it was. I also said “wow” you wouldn’t think a snowstorm was coming with the crystal clear skies and the sunrise.
