I have about 7.5-8" so the satellite-derived one isn't far that off here, but its def slightly high overall which isn't a surprise because of the water content. The pack in ORH was about 11-12" on winter hill.

I think I have about 3 inches of water in the pack...it's ridiculous. I should cut a biscuit and melt it and see what it actually is.

I remember doing one in March 08 and there was like a foot of water. I had to take like 4 stratus cores to reach the bottom. lol

All the lower spots in the yards filled with water, so in some areas it's literally 8" of ice. It's that grey look if you know what I mean. I recall (think 1999) we had like 3-4" of pure glacier on the south shore. Think it was 99. But I can't recall that since.

Yes, pack was at 19" this AM.  I know there have been packs like this in the past but this is the first I've recorded 20" for PWM (4th season).  Like NW_GYX said, it's usually his area that has deep pack, not us.  Looking at CoCoRAHS, it is odd to see the coast with a deeper pack than inland.  We're only talking 4-6" difference but still.

We really have been blessed during this stretch between the parade of solid if not spectacular storms and excellent retention. And you're right about the immediate coastline; I was driving around Pine Point Beach yesterday afternoon, and it was truly impressive. I've rarely seen depth and drifts like that down there even during some of our more historic stretches. There's usually a noticeable drop-off within the three miles or so from Route 1 to the marsh and beach.

Is there ocean ice? I remember in the 05 cold snap going to the cape shore and it looked like the north pole.

this is quite a bit healthier. like seeing the -AO over the top too. pretty solid

Better, still not great..I'd like it bit further east, but at least its not leaning positively and it extends up to higher latitudes into the AO domain...as you said.

Now lets see how reality plays out

Agreed.  After the last several years this is such a welcomed gift.

man it's a different kind of cold out there, not sure if it's the insane amount of ice, wind, but temps ain't crazy cold, just feels worse. my driveway is literally a skating rink of about 2" solid in shaded areas, I was out for hours chopping yesterday, coop door is hit, frost heaves damn near moved the whole thing. hoping for something substantial, but this ice gots to go first...we leave 3/1 for Tampa spring training, and watch, that'll be when it happens.
