I don’t snowmobile recreationally to know what it’s like (I’ve only done some limited snowmobiling at the resort for getting from point A to B), but to travel 140 miles in a deep winter environment sounds intriguing.  Thats covering some ground.

Yeah PF, That’s a good day on the trails with a lunch stop worked in.

Jesus glad I never went the heat pump route, seeing 1K plus electricity bills out there

It can't be your primary source of heat in the winter.  It has a sweet spot in the shoulder seasons when you need some temporary warmth, and is an efficient A/C route in the summer.

But consistent cold temperatures (like 20F or below on average) on heat pumps will suck up electricity to maintain temperature.  I love mine all other times of the year except the depths of winter.  Propane baseboard heat here for this time of year.

I have a hybrid heat pump and use it like you say, otherwise the oil kicks in, cost me an extra $300 dollars so far this year compared to last year.

AC only I would use it

We use ours to get a little heat in the fall when some nights get cold but its oil now. I have a wood stove too but haven't used it since I need a shoulder replacement and couldn't get a good wood supply this year. Our new house will have mini splits with baseboard propane and I'll have a pellet stove in the basement.

You can’t just rely on one source, My oil fired furnace is very efficient and heat pumps for AC and to get the chill out in the fall.

Agree, I want the pellet stove too when we have a cold spell. It' a little colder in Maine than it is here.

Where in Maine are you moving too?  Southern areas along the coast aren’t a whole lot different…but once you get inland and a little more north, it gets significantly colder.

Glad I went the heat pump route.

Installed solar and heat pumps in December.  Have paid <$100 in electric in total since.  Even with solar minimum it's covering 90% of my electric costs WITH heat pumps.

I got a new heat pump/nat gas furnace 18 months ago and it's great. Only a 1300 sqft house and I think my electric was $190 this month and my gas bill was $130. Having a/c in the summer is great too.

Not really.  You're not getting any more or less accurate that way.  Make multiple measurements on your board and record the average to the tenth.  NWS has us going to the tenth on new snow and whole on depth.

Awesome. The AC alone is going tk be worth it, can't wait for that.

However I SHOCKED to hear your bill wasn't over a thousand dollars like that one guy on facebooks.

Southern area along the coast but my sister has been there 20 years and the winter there is much better than here plus you get that cold wind off the ocean that gets right to your bones. Right now she has a pack 3 times bigger than mine.

Lol…the people in northern Aroostook call that area SNE.   All kidding aside, congratulations on your move, it sounds real nice.  Next year that area will get fringed, and SNE will get buried.:snowing:
