I don't know how people who live in climates where that stuff is daily during the winter. Despite the cold though I am pleased with how quickly the ice in the driveway and at the bottom of the driveway has melted. Contrary, virtually no melting of anything in the backyard which is kind of stunning because it gets direct Sunlight. But I am fine with this...the landscape is beautiful. I wish though the patio would melt for the dog. I've tried to use the ice chopper but no use. 1

Def doesn’t look like an end to winter. We might even get something next Friday. But even if that fails and ends up warmer, early March looks pretty primed for chances. The difference in your posts and Scott’s this winter have been astounding. You can see/sense his broken spirit in his posting. No offense intended here…just the difference is stark this winter.

It’s just been the lack of usual long torchy stretches that have defined many of the past 6-7 winters. This winter almost reminds me of 2000-01 without the monster snowstorms. That winter wasn’t particularly cold at all, but it was almost totally devoid of torches so the snow just slowly piled up over the interior and didn’t melt all winter. March was pretty cold but that was more a function of so much storminess rather than arctic outbreaks ala 2014 or 2015. 2

Looks like that through about the 7th...10th of March, yeah. But, I also caution ( you know this... ) if the tapestry of thicknesses relax at all, you know how folks get kind of disconnected. After all this time, people may forget that our rest state will bounce - not going to address the why-elephant. I'll just keep it to the notion that we're after solar min, so a 537 dm afternoon with light west wind and sun will highly likely propel the temperatures over most machine guidance, and/or probably the cold addled forecaster's expecations. LOL. The old nape season bust factor... We may need some time to get reintroduced to the real world when this -EPO dominating thing relaxes. There's one more pulse of that ( for now ..) next week... it may play a role in the 28th thing, we'll see on that.. 6z GFS blah blah. but after that, it looks interesting the longer range. All sources still insist a bigger collapse will happen around that temporal boundary. It's not being pushed back either. Probably it will eventually can kicked at least a little. Never seen a warm up in spring happen on time - we could go Venus on Earth, and Earth will find away to point Labrodor's giant cryo butt at us, and then deliberately overdose it with laxative. But hey... if an Ides +EPO/-PNA/+(AO/NAO) can somehow soar us from this, to that... that'd be pretty cool to see.
WxWatcher007 Posted yesterday at 03:36 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:36 PM I appreciate that it hasn’t been a blowtorch, but every time a southern city verifies what would be a warning level event here—when I’ve gotten nowhere close—the season loses a letter grade. First New Orleans & Pensacola. Now Virginia Beach. It’s unacceptable.

Yeah it’s kind of funny that once you’re south of DC (and even DC itself has been decent), this winter will have all kinds of historic relevancy. It will be known for record breaking snows and some record breaking cold. But up here, it’s just going to be remembered as a big tease. It was “wintry” for long stretches this season with snow OTG and ice choking the rivers and lakes frozen, but we avoided big time arctic cold shots and avoided big snow storms with surgical precision. Maybe we’ll get thrown a bone before the season it out. But getting teased a couple more times would be more fitting of this winter.

I've become a big baby over the years with the cold. I put alot of blame in getting my drivers license/driving. Back before then I used to pretty much walk (for the few part time jobs I had it was usually a 45-90 minute walk depending on the job) or take the bus to hockey games. But I walked in all elements. Now I can't stand to be outside for more than 2 minutes in the cold...I've done it to myself with getting lazy. 1
