47th anniversary of the ultimate Big Un for some parts of SNE

Fabulous storm that was…the fury was something to behold. But Feb ‘13 was even better here.  Never thought I’d see anything as powerful and rip roaring as 78 again…but 13 was even better.  Two monsters for sure.

Why would anyone want to move to Thailand?  Especially being a snow lover.

It's actually an absolutely amazing country. I never want to leave the States, but it's one of the very few other countries I could see myself living in... even with no snow. The food, people scenery etc. Did I say food?! Sawasdee Krab!

My family lived in W. Medford at the time, before I was born. Looks close to like upper 20's to 30" with that map. Down here, would've been like 15"...though my last place in Acushnet looks like they are in the 24"+ range. Thanks for posting..I've never seen a map like this for 78'

I was just a 9 year old weenie, but I’m thinking my parents house in Foxboro must have had 36-40”.  It was monstrous.

yeah 78 will always be my top just for the shear magnitude and I was a kid so made it more fun, but 13 was the most snow I've ever seen fall, had 32" all said and done, and that was in Waterbury...took two days to fully clear my parents and my house out. closest I've come since is that March one, I think 2018, can't remember but was just under 20" in that one.

I'm surprised the CRV got 14-18" I thought it was a more E MA affair.  We lived in Cambridge at the time.  I was in 4th grade and had no school for a week.

Yup..4th grade here too lol. No school for a week also.  Ya it was in the low to mid 20’s here for accumulation(close to 2ft)…but the drifts were monstrous with 78. It was a beast for all of SNE. A Crippling storm.

was a senior in high school during the blizzard of 78 and they let us out at noon time, had three good size rocks in the trunk of my 68 Malibu coup and along with the snow tires that was the equivalent of all wheel drive then lol. I lived in Wethersfield and it was pretty impressive but not like the eastern part of CT

I don’t know..I remember it so well..the blizzard conditions were relentless. We got out with an emergency dismissal at noon…buses were stuck everywhere, almost didn’t get home.  Then trying to walk home in the driving snow was insane. My mother wouldn’t let us go back out once indoors…my father was a police officer in our town, and called home and said don’t let the kids out…we’re searching for kids all over town cuz they’re getting lost and disoriented in the snow, due to the intense blizzard conditions. Was bad here.  Blizzard conditions all day and all night..it was something to witness.

Our school’s roof caved in, so it took them a while to move us over to a mothballed building (which is still currently used). So we had 3 weeks off in a row (Feb vacation was in there already)

'78 was awesome. Freshman in HS. Living in Norwell. Took a few days for my street to be cleared by a front end loader. No school for two weeks. People have previously mentioned that we had a big big storm in January but it had all melted /washed away but February stayed cold and we played in the snow all month. I remember we still had pack in the 2nd week of March. Over the years, I had older colleagues who would regale us at work about their car getting stuck on 128 or southeast expressway and walking into a neighborhood and just knocking on the door and living with strangers for a few days. Stories of fans trappped in the old Boston Garden after the Beanpot are epic.

Btw…..Happy 20 years of posting…I think you and I starting posting on Wright weather bulletin board (WWBB) around the same time…that epic 2004-05 winter. I had lurked previously but didn’t post until that winter. I remember seeing you show up and I started interacting with your posts. Jesus…20 fooking years…and some of the same peeps are still here from that era…Jerry, Ginxy, Kevin (CT Blizzard back then), Ryan, Bob, Tamarack, and several others I’m sure I missed. Fun times.

Posting on ne.weather and that guy Joe Bartlo would argue would everyone.  Him and DT would have epic fights.   And in the middle of that would be the "I'll be brief" Gary Gray post :-)

We had a good storm here a little before(a week maybe) the 78 blizzard.  I still remember the  names (local radio station WTIC 1080 and the Travelers Weather Service  would name them). The one before the blizzard was winter storm Gerry, and the blizzard was Larry.

This was a great storm in 78. I was in third grade, my older brother was in fourth grade and my younger brother was in first grade. I remember we lived in lower Westchester county and the three of us were building tunnels into the street because there were no cars or anything around with all the snow. It was a great memory

Likewise! I grew up in Granby CT. We were at the bus stop when my mom and a couple other parents came walking to the bus stop. We were like WTF they never come see us. When they said they got a call and school was cancelled you could probably hear our excitement a mile away! And no school the rest of the week
