Medford at the time, before I was born. Looks close to like upper 20's to 30" with that map. Down here, would've been like 15"...though my last place in Acushnet looks like they are in the 24"+ range. Expand yeah 78 will always be my top just for the shear magnitude and I was a kid so made it more fun, but 13 was the most snow I've ever seen fall, had 32" all said and done, and that was in Waterbury...took two days to fully clear my parents and my house out. closest I've come since is that March one, I think 2018, can't remember but was just under 20" in that one. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ya it was in the low to mid 20’s here for accumulation(close to 2ft)…but the drifts were monstrous with 78. It was a beast for all of SNE. We got out with an emergency dismissal at noon…buses were stuck everywhere, almost didn’t get home. Then trying to walk home in the driving snow was insane. My mother wouldn’t let us go back out once indoors…my father was a police officer in our town, and called home and said don’t let the kids out…we’re searching for kids all over town cuz they’re getting lost and disoriented in the snow, due to the intense blizzard conditions. People have previously mentioned that we had a big big storm in January but it had all melted /washed away but February stayed cold and we played in the snow all month. I remember we still had pack in the 2nd week of March. Over the years, I had older colleagues who would regale us at work about their car getting stuck on 128 or southeast expressway and walking into a neighborhood and just knocking on the door and living with strangers for a few days. I still remember the names (local radio station WTIC 1080 and the Travelers Weather Service would name them). The one before the blizzard was winter storm Gerry, and the blizzard was Larry. Expand This was a great storm in 78. I was in third grade, my older brother was in fourth grade and my younger brother was in first grade. I remember we lived in lower Westchester county and the three of us were building tunnels into the street because there were no cars or anything around with all the snow. We were at the bus stop when my mom and a couple other parents came walking to the bus stop. We were like WTF they never come see us. When they said they got a call and school was cancelled you could probably hear our excitement a mile away!
