Don’t have a great scientific answer for you about the warm noses. It’s just been very difficult of late to get an old school true Miller A type of system.

Regarding Atlanta, they got lucky that the forcing set up where it did. Good for them. Just absolute luck of the draw with how this system unfolded.

Seems like a while since we had a solid MA punching up snow...anyone remember the last solid MA that yielded a lot of snow?

Atlanta picked up 2.1" of snow yesterday. That broke the daily mark of 1.3" from 1953. It was also Atlanta's biggest snowstorm since January 16-17, 2018. In addition, Birmingham picked up 2.0" of snow. The last time both cities saw 2.0" or more snowfall in the same storm was December 8-9, 2017. Finally, Augusta also saw 1.0" of snow. The last time Atlanta, Augusta, and Birmingham all saw 1.0" or more snow in the same storm was February 12-13, 2014.

Why do we have such issues with warm noses? I don’t get it. Like why it can’t it just snow six+ inches for once like it used to back in the old days without all of these mixing issues? And how Atlanta got more snow than I did is absolutely baffling.

Cause we aren't puppies with cold noses??? :lmao:. Didn't check my board but looks like we got about an inch of snow then half inch of sleet. No sign of fr.

We picked up 0.6” snow/sleet before the switch. I stink at measuring ice but looks like 0.15”-0.20” somewhere round there. 31.1 and pretty out despite the mixed bag. We cannot buy a snowstorm

I am waiting for it to get light enough to take drone shots of the icy trees

So me being a dumbass, didn't realize there was an OBS thread.... I am 40 miles south of ATL, wound up with around 1/2" to an 1" snow/sleet, then it flipped to freezing rain all afternoon until around 10 pm last night. Everything was glazed over with a decent amount of ice. Fortunately we stayed at 32 overnight, most of the ice is gone, but whatever snow we had is just about gone too. I expect it will all be gone by this afternoon. Nice little storm, more than anyone has had in a while. We should all be thankful.

1" snow
ton of sleet
like .05 FR
then Snow on top.

My offical report to NWS was 1" SN

Its super foggy this morning.

This is about right for us, maybe 1.5 inches prior to sleet compaction. Gonna melt quickly in sun today but roads are a sheet of white ice here right now. Great for sledding.
