BooneWX
Went back and looked under the hood at the big 18z gfs run. We would have faired a lot better in reality. In the deformation zone, it shows frz rain on the map but the sounding was very clearly snow.
calculus1
32.0/28 with drizzle. That precipitation has dragged the temperature down quickly, but we'll see how long it lasts at freezing or lower. I don't notice any glaze, as of yet, even on the elevated surfaces.

We’re still seeing thousand mile swings between runs with the individual pieces of energy.

strongwxnc
Back to work today for good. Nothing like starting buses at 33.3 degrees in the rain!

avianman
Still sitting at 31.7 degrees here at Riverbend Park in northern Catawba County. Nice coating of ice on everything, including the parking lot (that was a fun walk to the office). I think the county did the right thing by cancelling school today.
wncsnow
Interesting drive to Asheville earlier. Was 33 with some ice on trees going up Old Fort mountain before I hit the fog which was very bad near the top. As soon as I got to Ridgecrest, brilliant bright sun and the temp went up to 41. Then as soon as I got to Asheville the fog set back in.
BooneWX
Fwiw, the GEFS panels have about 13/30 showing a big dog for us. We’re not dead yet.

BooneWX
Thumbing through the LP tracks on the ensembles and for most, you really couldn’t draw up a better track for us locally. I don’t want to jump ahead of myself but ****typically*** those lows at the strength they depict, is a western NC classic that usually dumps 4-8” with maybe some sleet mixed in. I’m cautiously optimistic. Edit: and if that GFS OP matched more of its ensemble members, I think we would’ve had quite the clown map. 3

The overall tracks ready needs to be as close to the coast as possible. Not sure I buy the inland track as of now. However, it is horse shoes and hand grenades till now cast time around here.

wncsnow
I just have that nagging feeling that something is going to screw us still. Don't like the 18Z euro going dry again. It looked like the UK with a dry area around the escarpment too. Hopefully the trends will be good at 00Z.
