Hurricane Agnes
Have 1/4" here in NW Philly with SN- of very fine flakes, a temp of 24, and dp now up to 21. I expect if the dp continues to rise, the flakes will be enlarged, and it will look "more dramatic". ETA - the untreated parts of the streets have started caving. The city also closed its offices today as well, interestingly enough. The early '70s was the "snow drought" period with little or nothing really happening until 1978! Didn't stop us from turning on KYW for the numbers though. I think ‘76 had an appreciable storm. I actually have Super 8 video of it.

I was in high school and whatever went on in the '70s before '78 was barely enough to write home about - at least here in Philly. In '78, I remember me and my sisters finally being able to make an actual snowman and did so out on the front of our house. It was a good sized one too. We even had some Japanese tourists drive by and then stop to take pics! My mom also bought a new car that winter and when I had come back from a weekend class ski trip around the time of that storm, I returned to the car smashed up on the side due to some cop doing a chase on the icy streets, and T-boning my moms parked car. My HS friend's dad had picked my friend and me up from the school after we returned from the trip to drop me off, and he had to calm me down when I saw the car. 1

Lady Di
Teeney Tiny flakes taking forever to accumulate! Did have some heavier SN fall about an hour ago for about 10-15 mins. Eyeballing an inch so far. I live on a main road and there's not much traffic right now and it looks to be slushy, cars and trucks are moving slower than usual. Furnace is getting a workout, and I don't want to look at that fuel gauge! Also, grateful I can work from home on days like this. 24F

They sure as hell wouldn't! After that, many winters made up for it though. I do remember 1977 being nothing but frozen, glacial tundra. Just sheets of ice leftover from the couple inch snows, that lasted forever. Bunch of single digit temps that January as well as a couple below 0Fs. Brutal when standing out on a corner waiting for a SEPTA bus and then when one does show up, it is packed to the door and drives by... and the next one takes forever to come so you start walking. RU848789
Been snowing lightly for about an hour and we have a whole 1/4" OTG as of 9:50 am, lol. NWS discussion said they're sticking with their forecast amounts, but I have my doubts for most of CNJ, especially the northern half towards 78, getting to 1" and for Philly getting to 3", looking at the radar, although it can always fill in more. It is covering all surfaces, which is no surprise at 26F, so paved surfaces are slick already. It is a very pretty snow - light and fluffy consisting of small dendrites. Edit: Well, all of a sudden, the 12Z NAM/RGEM/ICON came out, all upping totals to 1-1.5" (and 2" in spots) for areas N of 276/195 up to 78, i.e., CNJ, plus the 13Z and 14Z HRRR are showing 1"+ for CNJ from 9 am to 2 pm, so maybe I spoke too soon, especially as the radar in eastern PA from Philly to Allentown has blossomed and is heading our way - depends if it holds together or dries up/falls apart. I’ll have to look at the actual super 8 film roll and see if it was ‘77 or ‘76. I know ‘78 had a nice Nor’Easter.
