IrishRob17
I had a few periods of legit light snow between 9-11am but it lasted less than 10 minutes each time and melted on contact.
IrishRob17
Have a patchy dusting in the yard this morning. 32/20 under gray skies.
wdrag
nw NJ-nePA-Orange County NY and NYC-LI...right now a dusting to possibly 3" but we're on the fringe here with uncertainty. Best chance for 3" is along I80. Modeling differs saying I84 and northward basically nil but for me.. I keep the door open for a dusting even in Orange County up to Danbury CT. Check back tomorrow at 7AM and seek other opinions. General northeast USA PA NJ northward Tuesday the 7th through Thursday the 9th: WINDY! Scattered northwest wind gusts 40-50 MPH! Isolated power outages. Temps I84 hills basically through the 18th: Continuously below freezing these next two weeks with the I95 cities and valleys occasionally just above freezing. This will develop safe pond ice, but also pushes the infrastructure into scattered problems... including outside wall pipes freezing if not enough house heat, especially these upcoming rather windy periods next week. It wont be extreme cold but persistent. NC-VA Fri Jan 10-Sat the 11th: A possible snow event of several inches? For now, if it makes up to NYC-I84 a dusting.

I know I was never buying into anything from this one so if I see some flakes in the air it'll be a win IMO.

If you go back to p1 and see the south shift since 12/30... it should inform those that plaster the page with D8 snowfall, how large an error can occur.

Agreed but many never learn that, which is astounding to me. Have some flurries in the air here now.

gravitylover
If we're not gonna get a decent amount (4+") a dusting is about all I want. People are already terrible drivers and they get even worse when it's slippery. So... I'm hoping for next to nothing even though I hate dry cold because another 100 gallons of oil is less $ than replacing a car. I'm good with the mood flakes floating around through the sunshine right now

Always thankful for this thread. Weather wise I have always found very few similarities between this area, interior SE NY, NW NJ, NE PA, SW CT, and Rich's postage stamp, than 95% of the population of the NYC forum. We're a much better match for the SWNE area but try to get a word in edgewise on the New England forum. Tough to do when some individuals have 50k to 100k individual posts. Many good posters there and knowledgeable, insightful information, but a tad snobby at times to anyone whose state begins with New and doesn't end in Hampshire. Enjoy the dry week ahead with near normal temperatures = boring.

Enjoy the dry week ahead with near normal temperatures = boring. That's a good post, I agree. Many solid posters that I've interacted with for decades and enjoy reading most of the time up in New England. To your snobby point, I do recall many years ago now one poster in particular who was questioning why I was even in that forum posting since it was only for people "from New England". My reply to that though is that technically I am from New England, well northern New England and this poster is someone who moved to southern New England years ago, as I was born in Laconia and lived in the Lakes Region of NH. That poster pokes around the NYC forum on the regular so I guess they got over their segregated thoughts.
Hitman
Used to spend a lot of time lurking/learning in the NE forum but it seems that they’ve become more insular over the years. Seems to me there are more inside jokes and play than discussion of actual weather now. And fwiw-Walt’s posts are fantastic and elevate the NY metro to another level. Much thanks to Walt. that being said, let’s get a freaking legit snow storm already. 3 1

In the NE forum there is some great analysis and discussions you just have to move around the chatter. Walt’s posts are excellent, you can learn so much from his posts. I really appreciate his time and efforts along with sharing his knowledge.
gravitylover
Kinda ironic that the NE guys turned me/us on to Walt and now we've moved away from them. When I spent more time up there I liked the local reports but they're not important enough to me anymore so I don't need the drama. Did anyone notice how much snow they got at Woods Valley ski area? They were over 60" at open this morning and it was still coming down 3-4"/hr.

I’ve learned plenty from folks up in NE after the years but the first time I read a Walt discussion it was long before this particular board let along sub regional forums. You think there’s arguing now between what NYC may get versus up here, the arguments then on a unified board were epic at times. Folks doing play by play on models for the whole eastern seaboard LOL. I did not see how much that ski area got but I was impressed with some of the snow totals the BGM NWS posted this morning.
