I'm thinking the storm we had today is just like a preview to a big one like what happened in January 2000.

Yep..   Wouldn’t be surprised if the next one was the biggest since the glaciers started their retreat 17,000 years ago.

Hey I'll take a nice 4-6 inch storm at this rate, we're still young into the winter season.  This storm around here couldn't get it's act together

We lose the blocking but PNA looks to stay positive. Models insist on keeping the cold coming. Will probably have more chances this month

-EPO + Phase 1 & 2. Probably all we can ask for atm.

Looks to me on the ensembles that the 3rd week of January definitely has some potential just gotta see where things go from here. Kind of has an arctic boundary/zipper low type look to it on the GFS.

All Globals have the chance of something in that period. Snow/ICE and Rain are all possible.... Hopefully we all get the big one.

One thing is for sure, this winter isn't the complete fail that basically everyone was calling for. Last winter was supposed to be the best in years and was a total fail. This one was supposed to be a la Nina torch and it's been cold and a lot of us have seen snow.

In the good ole days of southern weather, yesterday was an appetizer and not the meal. Let’s see what magic we can conjure up the next 15 days. I really still want one good overrunning event with blue on the radar from Mississippi to Virginia.

Biggest concern in this pattern would be cold stuck west of apps. Ridge orientation out west will be crucial to make sure cold is directed east and not just into Deep South. Does look like a wetter pattern. There will be chances. The 20th timeframe seems to be the next big threat. As models show, additional cold thereafter. Could be a fun end to Jan and, dare I say, start to fab Feb???

The defeatist in me from living in the triangle disagrees as I watch the last of our 1/2” slop disappear from the shaded areas but you are right. This page has been “hot” pretty much since Christmas and we just had a forum wide storm and have had cold air pretty constant since new years
