It looks interesting.... I know the Euro trended south today but not as far as the gfs.

I doubt it. I think everyone is hoping for a better solution, enjoying any positive trends, but realistic that it probably won't happen.

In addition, a good number don’t want a major icestorm for obvious reasons and would thus rather have 33+ rain with heat/power if that’s the only realistic alternative.

Of course, I don't think anybody wants anything that produces damage and causes problems for everyone. I spent weeks cleaning up from Helene. I know I have had enough catastrophe. But, if it could wiggle into some snow for me, I would take it.

But, none of us have any control over what happens. What happens happens.

Weather down here in Tampa and Fort Myers this week is simply stunning.  You cannot beat winter weather on the gulf coast.  Nice reprieve from the wet and soggy.

0z GFS with a moderate snow event that turns into an ice storm for northern NC and southern VA. Pretty significant storm according to the latest gfs.

GFS keeps dipping significantly south. Getting kinda scary ice-wise for the triad

Watching this close from the Northern Triad. This is a situation where I’m praying for 33 and rain. That GFS run is straight nightmare fuel. Isn’t the cad usually stronger that what’s advertised?

Not sure what the gfs is seeing other than that HP trending stronger.

Today will be some pretty important runs to see whether this is a concerning ice event with some snow up this way or if it's mainly rain. Gfs and ICON stay further south with the cmc/Euro more north. Kinda hard to bet against the Euro but we will see.

6z Euro hasn't bumped south at all, I'm not really buying the GFS ice possible North of the VA border for sure though

ICON at 96 has a little snow for the northern counties in NC.

12z GFS still has a pretty nasty Ice Storm along the border counties. Last three runs.

Seems colder but also a bit further North. There's some hope for a little light snow/sleet with the leading edge north of 40 if you are to believe GFS trends. Just can't cave to the Euro for that to be possible though

This area has a decent chance at a good front end thump if the gfs and it's ensemble are correct. Still not sold on it though without the Euro. But somewhere in this area could get hit hard for a while followed by a lot of ice and then the rain on Wednesday and Thursday.
