This definitely hasn't been the cold outbreak it looked like a couple weeks ago. My coldest low is this morning at 20. The daytime highs over perform as well. I'm not complaining, just not what I was expecting with snowcover.

I am glad it finally died off.

Again, the lows would have been lower if we could have managed to get HP overhead with calm winds and clear skies. The main culprit is the massive vortex locked in to the NE. Too much wind. Most days this week have had highs in the upper 20s here. Had a 31 Wed I think. No doubt in my mind there would have been some lows in the 8-12 range here with the snow cover and better radiational cooling conditions. 1

wxdude64
Low was 6.1 here, around 4 am, then it rose to 7.8 at 7 am CoCoRaHS reading. It was calm for a while overnight, but now have light winds and clouds (high cirrus) has moved in.

My station snuck above 30 each day this week, which kinda surprised me a bit with all this snow cover. Tbf the wind stayed up and we didn’t have that high pressure overhead. Could also have been a downslope component.

Yep western parts of the region got under the influence of HP that briefly shifted eastward, and will retreat today as our little storm moves in.
CAPE
This wasn't forecast to be some brutally cold airmass. Maybe 10 days out some op runs advertised Barney cold. Forecast high temps for here this week were upper 20s/low 30s, with lows in upper teens/low 20s. Exactly what transpired.

Our snowiest months have been similar (tho slightly colder): Jan 1996 and Feb 2003 each only one night in single digits. Feb 2010 none (BWI). (Well; they only have 7 inches of snow, so may be jumping to conclusions.)

A nice -2 month with a few storms will win 99.6% of the time.

katabatic
5.9 here. Winds remained slightly elevated until right before sunrise. Not nearly as dramatic as Canaan NWR's temperature tank, but followed a similar path. Was hoping to see 0 but looks like that'll wait a little while.
katabatic
Mother Nature has a way of creating her own art and design. The front of my porch faces east and the prevailing winds are from the west, so I get these snow overhangs from time to time but this one takes the cake.
snowfan
Increasing clouds and another day with minimal snow melt. These weeks with wall to wall snow cover are the best. 1
Jrlg1181
Still in the teens, sitting at 19 degrees almost to noon.... Overcast and 4 or 5 inches of icy snow on the ground - definitely looks like we are somewhere between Montana and Alaska...

Waiting to see how far north the decent (heavier) snows get this evening and overnight. How 'solid' is your snow? I can stand on ours without breaking through from the sleet and freezing drizzle at the end on Monday.

Not often we see a spread that wide.

wxdude64
So the sun broke thru the clouds for 20-30 minutes about an hour ago. We were stuck 22/23 degrees, pushed up to 25.5 with the sun, but already back down to 24.6/11.1 now at 4 pm with the return of the clouds. Awaiting the snow.
