Can confirm deep snow cover near DCL.  On the mountaintop I have a solid 2ft base that managed to cover my heat pump and the exhaust on my furnace so it shut down til I cleared it.  Gonna have to build something to cover it for next year.

I also discovered that 2ft of snow going up a steep grade is about the most the g wagon can handle without chains lol.  Fun times.

Yea, I'm kinda open to some milder days for a bit.  Not sure how much I want another 3-4" snowfall, which is about the most I've seen from each storm.  Mby has had a bunch of minor events and some entertaining squalls, but at this point I think I want a 6-10"+ event.  Actually, the most I've seen here since I moved here in 2021 is about 6" in Jan '22.

Agree, if no snow this week, will root for warmer weather before our next event.

What I find wild is that there's still plenty of snow on rooftops here. Of course, those in direct sun are bare, but any roof that doesn't get a reasonable amount of direct sunlight still has a couple inches of snow on it.

Agree on the lack of really soppy melt. It's just a slow contraction of the snowpack with some damp areas around it.

Yup. The roads are dry and the snow is just contracting. It's been a clean storm from start to finish here lol

Update to the ice on bay discussion:

https://www.chesapeakebaymagazine.com/cd-canal-under-ice-restrictions-as-upper-bay-potomac-hit-90-ice-cover/

Interesting quote I never knew:

"Under Port Condition Two, “only steel hull vessels with 1,500 minimum shaft horsepower and a main engine cooling system design that prevents blockage from ice” may transit the area, "

That's a significant sized (and priced) vessel.

The map :

My low this morning 21f.

Fast ice is accurate for the Bush River, near the top of the western shore. Everything I can see from my area still looks totally covered today.

Agree about the lack of soggy, squishy snow melt. It's disappearing but in a very considerate way haha. Had a great afternoon walk in the woods.

Looks like some sneaky wind might be accompanying the thaw at times this week.

Yeah. 0z 3kNAM showing winds 1km above the surface of 40-45kts within the mixing layer Wednesday afternoon w/ the 0z HRRR being super aggressive briefly showing winds of around 50kts within the mixing layer Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday, especially the afternoon, could be quite windy.

Three days in a row now that I have soared from 20’s at 8am to low 40’s by 11am but then the rise slows and  stalls out at 2pm .  45 Sunday, 46.5 Monday and 46 today for a high.  This snow pack has been crazy .

As soon as the suns rays drop behind my sloped street the temperature plummets .

That happened at 430 today and it was 45.5  Thirty minutes later at 5pm it’s 43 and I’m going to try and track at 30 minute intervals thru 8pmm
