My kid has gone to school 6 days since Christmas vacation began on 12/20.  With all the snow days exhausted, this week has had 3 remote learning days.

Potomac is definitely fully frozen at the TR bridge on I-66 (and south of there as far as the eye can see).  Can't speak to further south.

Not overdone for our little section of tidewater, (the South ) 100% fast ice here. But I am interested to hear about the larger rivers, especially if someone has traversed the 301 bridge maybe.

So the thing that held me back from below zero is now helping keep it cool. Currently 14.9/3.4 at 11 am with mostly cloudy to cloudy skies. I am JUST into the clouds streaming overhead from SW to NE.

Over my 13 years of temperature records, I've now had 20 days hit single digits for lows (none below zero).  To nobody's shock, these are highly clustered:

• 6 each in the winters of 13-14, 14-15
• 2 each this year, Dec 2022 (Xmas cold), late Jan 2019, early Jan 2018.

Despite a forecast for rising temperatures overnight, DCL bottomed out around -7 and strung together a fourth consecutive night of subzero temperatures.  
 

The zero reading in Leesburg this morning was the coldest of the series here.

I think that means average as of Jan 22...if that's what you're getting at.

I declare that that big blue snow streak along the Gulf Coast has broken the map. I guess LA to be at over 800% of average (or more). They've run out of colors.

DCA has been reporting a Trace for their snow depth since last Friday, the 17th.

I did note that there have only been 3 Januaries in the past 25 years with more snow there than this month.  And only 4 in the past 30 years with a lower mean temperature than this year (so far.)

I’m saying this before the 1pm comes out but predicted highs were 32-35 and at 12 noon temps  actually23-25. I’m wondering if snow well to the south is thwarting southerly  breezes to do much?

Ours went from 33 to 30, as well. Nearby PWSs sitting between 27-28. Might creep up just a bit with some sunshine, but I wouldn't expect any extraordinary spikes.

I hit -15.2 yesterday and -8.9 this morning. Definitely the coldest since I've been here (but that's only 3 winters). I have no idea how unusual -15 is. My guess is lately (of course) it's extremely rare but prior to say 2015?

Im with you. BCPS put “due to forecasted low temperatures” as their reason for the delays this week. So clearly it was because of the cold. And yet it was colder at 645 this morning at the bus stop than it was the last two mornings at 845am pickups. Why not delay today too? It didn’t make any sense to me at all.

Ha! I noticed that too when I was in Syracuse. School went on without issue despite lake effect bands dumping snow.  Made me laugh

Canaan had a crazy temp swing this morning.  It was -26 at 7:35am and up to 14 at 8:30am.  40 degrees in just under an hour!

If the school system can take a delay to get a little more time off... They will do it every time.  Hence all the half days... because they know they count to the 180 day school year.

I know. I was fine with the delays the last two mornings but didn’t understand why not this morning too. Made no sense to me
