Paleocene
2 hours ago, dailylurker said: Low of 13 here. I noticed the other day while driving to South Mountain a big difference in snow across the area. I live just east of Crofton. From Northern Crofton/Odenton area to Columbia their seemed to be a snow hole. That area didn't do as well on the 6th and also didn't do well with the bust several days ago. Once you get past there you hit the fresh snow. Once you get east of Crofton you also run back into snowpack. I lucked out by about 10 miles on January 6th. 10 miles separates a great January and a disappointing January. I drove back to DC from PA on Monday, on 15/270. There was a steep fall-off once one got south of Frederick headed toward Rockville.

vastateofmind
It's finally above freezing, high 30s I think for most of the day...don't know the exact temp/DP. IDGAF. Some of the intractable snow piles are finally melting. For those of you who prefer weeks of northern Minnesota-ish winter weather, I wish you the best. I enjoy occasional, light/enjoyable snows here in NoVA, yes....but weeks of near-zero nighttime lows and streets/sidewalks still caked with white concrete and worrying about pipes freezing on a nightly basis and letting faucets drip... yeah, HARD NO. Over it. Looking forward to moderating temps over the next several days.

Not sure how many times this has to be explained to you.

Both are pretty frozen anyway. The PWS around DCA on the VA side (South Arlington and Old Town Alexandria) were 39-41 mostly for the high. 37-39F in downtown DC. Some 39-40F readings elsewhere in DC (Capitol Hill, etc).

pazzo83
some crazy little microclimates around here under certain conditions. I found a PWS a little over a mile away near the intersection of River Rd and Willard Ave in Friendship/Bethesda where the low was 8F colder last night (22F vs 14F), and currently it's 19F there while 25F here. I would guess that part of it is proximity to the Wisconsin Ave corridor plus the fact that we are near the top of the "ridge" coming up from the Potomac River valley while locations further down River Rd slope downwards towards the river. We generally have at least a light wind almost always, plus we don't radiate well to begin with. We are even several degrees warmer at night on some nights than PWS that are 5 or 6 blocks away (and about 100 feet lower in elevation).
