katabatic Posted yesterday at 12:15 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:15 PM In Mountain Lake Park, a nip is in the air at -12.8. Here in NY a local station has -16. Ended up with 55 inches - but now time to finish digging out and head home. Fun chase.

And then the RGEM closer in. The other models were more more realistic, and then the peak cold was delayed by a few hours which didn’t allow us further east to get as low. Euro has had a rough winter lol. Headed out to South Mountain this morning to hike out to Annopoils Rocks. I want to experience one last deep winter day before deep winter ends this weekend. WVclimo Posted yesterday at 12:51 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:51 PM Low of -4° for the second morning in a row. This matches the lowest temp I’ve recorded in 19 years at this location, along with January 2009 and January 2014.

Still have a few minutes to see if we can get below zero before the sun gets above the hills. High was 17.0.

Yes, I've run 5-7 degrees warmer than the forecasted lows for last couple of nights. Actually ran a few degrees colder for highs though, sorta averages out in the end.

Saw some high clouds just to the SE of me, that was probably what kept the three climo sites warmer than just to the NW. I also noticed that my station runs 1.5 degrees warmer than the average of the surrounding stations, so I might have to do some calibration. My car’s thermometer said 7 degrees, and it usually runs 1-2 degrees too warm.

poolz1 Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:14 PM Hit -7.0 just before sunrise. Confirmed by a station about 2 miles away which is at -6.3 and truck therm read -6 when I left the house at 630 this morning.

Also had a bit more cloud cover than expected I think. 1

Son lived in Breckenridge for a number of years. 30 was WARM. People would be outside eating like nothing was wrong. I visited in June one year, it was decent, upper 30's. There was a pickup football game going on in the field beside his apartment, teams were shirts vs shirtless lol. People get used to what they live in/with over time.

Maybe it’s a mental thing or the air is thinner up there, but 20-30 doesn’t feel that cold in the rockies or sierras. But here, its freezing. One time in steamboat springs, we were swimming in the hot springs when it was 17 degrees out. 1
