DCA with its first sub freezing high and sub 20 temp of the year today.  Currently 19F (20F at the 8pm ob, but it has no doubt dropped to 19 now).

15.6F here.  Single digits likely in the colder areas inside the beltway.

The dew points would indicate most of the area above the fall line could get to zero by morning if you have good snow cover.

Same here. Low was 12.2 around 8:30 am after 13.6 at 7 am. Currently 10.2/-5.6 at 8:40 pm. Forecast low is 5, may go lower.

Interesting. We’ve still got up to 3” of glacier in many spots (plus a little fluff on top), so i wouldn’t have thought it’s just about who got snow yesterday.

Fresh (ie. still fluffy) snow is way more effective at longwave radiation emission than hardpack snow.

lots of subtleties with snowcover. New snowpack is highly insulating because of air pockets, which means lower skin temps than old snowpack due to less heat draw from the soil. Older snowpack is radiatively similar to wet soil but with higher albedo.
