Yeah we could have seen multiple single digit lows this week with the snow cover, but have constantly been in a pressure gradient between the vortex over the Canadian Maritimes and HP centered to our west.

This definitely hasn't been the cold outbreak it looked like a couple weeks ago. My coldest low is this morning at 20. The daytime highs over perform as well. I'm not complaining, just not what I was expecting with snowcover.

Again, the lows would have been lower if we could have managed to get HP overhead with calm winds and clear skies. The main culprit is the massive vortex locked in to the NE. Too much wind. Most days this week have had highs in the upper 20s here. Had a 31 Wed I think. No doubt in my mind there would have been some lows in the 8-12 range here with the snow cover and better radiational cooling conditions.

My station snuck above 30 each day this week, which kinda surprised me a bit with all this snow cover. Tbf the wind stayed up and we didn’t have that high pressure overhead. Could also have been a downslope component.

Low was 6.1 here, around 4 am, then it rose to 7.8 at 7 am CoCoRaHS reading. It was calm for a while overnight, but now have light winds and clouds (high cirrus) has moved in.

Yep western parts of the region got under the influence of HP that briefly shifted eastward, and will retreat today as our little storm moves in.

Our snowiest months have been similar (tho slightly colder): Jan 1996 and Feb 2003 each only one night in single digits. Feb 2010 none (BWI).

(Well; they only have 7 inches of snow, so may be jumping to conclusions.)

True. You never want super duty cold, too much suppression usually. A nice -2 month with a few storms will win 99.6% of the time.

Still in the teens, sitting at 19 degrees almost to noon.... Overcast and 4 or 5 inches of  icy snow on the ground  - definitely looks like we are somewhere between Montana and Alaska...

Same here, 19.6/10.1 at noon. Waiting to see how far north the decent (heavier) snows get this evening and overnight. How 'solid' is your snow? I can stand on ours without breaking through from the sleet and freezing drizzle at the end on Monday.

wild how much colder the valley is right now compared to even C'ville (30F) or the 95 corridor (low-mid 30s).  Not often we see a spread that wide.

It takes about 50 lbs to break thru the crust. 40 lb dogs walk on top.

So the sun broke thru the clouds for 20-30 minutes about an hour ago. We were stuck 22/23 degrees, pushed up to 25.5 with the sun, but already back down to 24.6/11.1 now at 4 pm with the return of the clouds. Awaiting the snow.

Overcast and 25 degrees at 4 pm, The latest from the HRRR indicates you might get a little more than me. How is the level of the Jackson?  I fish there occasionally.
