Nice! Maybe we can all get together sometime. I used to meet up with Ian when I lived near DC and was still on this board lol. Maybe my gf and I can meet up with you and Mr map sometime.

Sounds fun! I know a great brewery nearby haha

Never would’ve bet for a second when I woke up that this shifted south. Much better than a 150mi north shift, unless like last year south is the trend that never stops stopping

Last year? What did we miss to the south? Only other instances of this that stands out is December 2018 <_<

I was living in Carroll County a couple years ago with the devil and my hometown in AA County got 11" while Carroll County got pity flakes. Last year I did better here in AA then Carroll County. It happens but not very much. I remember a lot more storm that missed me and hit Northern MD.

The January storms shifted south the whole way; they were Philly storms only 48-72 hours before

Dec. 2018 actually shifted notably north in even the last 12-24 hours, which is typical and why I wouldn’t mind this south shift personally

Ah yes that's right! We backed our way into both of those, lol

And yeah Dec 2018 was also modeled way way south to begin with...so that by the time the north trend started it was too far down for everybody. Different situation here, of course...but hearing "energy coming down from NE" is giving me flashbacks <_<

I hate the fighting that always happens with storms. Makes reading and cleaning up threads a fucking pain.

I wish we ALL could get storms that give us ALL equal-ish snow totals.  That includes the M/D people that do decent because they are colder, the NW crew that do well cause mountains, the beltway crew cause pavement and UHI fuck us in marginal storms, and the SE/SW people cause they just get whored in general.  I don’t need to win the most snow. It’s just nice to be in the game while others take the crown.

I root for everyone to get snow. It ain’t worth the negative energy to want others to miss out so that MBY gets the most. Most of y’all know I live in the worst effing place for snow the last 5-10 years. So I’m now at the point where if I can get a nice snow it’s more luck than climo. I’ll just count my blessing that I’m able to see snow when it happens and enjoy the fuck out of it. Cause now I’m hit with the reality that other things matter more like good health and my kids.

But for my friends here that love the snow, I hope y’all get as much as your heart desires.

Hobbyists and newbs alike all become experts when their area was once in the big snow is no longer in it. This board has always been a fascinating study on the human psyche. All i know is whatever happens weather wise Sunday/Monday i'm going to be wired no matter what at midnight depending on the outcome of the Vikings game. :hurrbear: #SKOL

If only others would learn to do the same when one of their posts suddenly disappears. Or just not post

Yeah. Wisp was nice. I may return this winter with the kiddos.

We went with a few other families last year between Christmas and the New Year. Conditions absolutely sucked . Going again this year February 6-9 and expecting he conditions to *slightly* better than last year. :D

Half tempted to make a thread for Mets to post model verification scores prior to any snow storm so people can see which ones should be trusted more.

and pin it

Can we also have a layman's weather term glossary as well? :D (thought I'd throw in my "while you're at it" two cents). I saw that in another sub too

I told myself this year I wasnt looking at this board until I saw snow falling from the sky. Surely showing up 2 days before our first good region-wide chance wont jinx anything! XD

great.  Now the euro will be in Charlotte.  Or congrats Carbondale

@WEATHER53

Wanted to answer your question. We sold our Rockville house in early September. All pre-planned over the last 4 years or so. We've wanted out of HCOL MoCo and unfriendly crowds for a decade but kids, schools, and all that jazz doesn't allow life to be simple lol.

We chose the general Smith Mtn lake area because it's a recreational paradise with minimal cost of living unless you want a lake front McMansion. Everything is a fraction of the cost and we downsized so financial stress is gone. Which is massively important because that stress was stealing years from me in MD.

We have a 25 acre tract of land in a remote section of Pittsylvania County with Leesville lake access. We also have a simple little place in Penhook with Smith Mtn lake access that serves as home base for now until we build our home on the land. The 2 properties are only 3 miles apart with a helicopter but a 20 minute drive due to topography and minimal roads lol.

Snow climo here is basically Roanoke so a downgrade there. I've stopped caring about that. Too many factors offset it and I've spent enough time chasing ghosts hahaha
