That's because not everyone in this sub got anything meaningful from this Winter Storm...

right, but still, a pretty large area was impacted. kinda shows the population distribution, and how concentrated a lot of the sub is in N IL, wisconsin, and michigan

This sub is pretty Chicago to Detroit centric. Add 30 pages to this thread if that storm hit up here

Exactly. Other than quickly checking totals or pics, what interest would we have in the storm? To be honest, Ive seen posts from a few users I didnt even recognize (in the impacted areas). I dont see people from STL or Cincy taking an interest in Chicago-Detroit snowstorms, nor would I expect them to.

haha yeah, I wasn't really complaining, but interesting to see the demographics that make up the subforum.

it's been subtly back-building to the north this morning, too. interesting to see how close to 12" we get. not sure we clear it but something to watch.

I measured about 7.5" at 9:30 this morning in Milford, probably around 9" by now?

congrats to the cincy and ohio river valley folks!     Was really hoping this would have been an i-70 special, but not in the cards.    Amazing how the north trend only happens for us when it comes with a warm tongue and a changeover.

I picked up about 2.5" just northeast of CMH.

Such a sharp cutoff. I'm around 5.5" near campus

I tried to warn you. NWS Chicago was also perplexed and how snow was not forming despite the optimal set for LES. Weird.

.

I already knew it was going to be a bust. Actual worthwhile LES events are quite a rare occurrence on this side of the lake. You need everything to go right for it to come to fruition.

LES didn't bust across NE Illinois or SE Wisconsin. It was just that the guidance that was further west actually was correct for once. And that only happened because I said that usually doesn't happen.

Reported snowfall totals of 2-6" are common across eastern Racine, Kenosha, and Lake Counties. For the parameters that were in place, that's really solid.

This is the last time I remember being impressed by pure lake effect in Chicago proper.

https://www.weather.gov/lot/2014jan22#:~:text=Total snowfalls were%3A,%2F21 with 1977-1978.

I believe there was also a lake effect event that followed a larger storm in early January same year but can’t find exact details

Not even the 2021 event? The one that dumped 18" downtown?

One for the record books in the Queen City. Removing duplicates, this appears to be 7th largest 2-day storm ever recorded. It was the largest 2-day storm since 2008, and that one eclipsed this by only 0.1 inches. Only 2 storms have recorded greater than 1" more of snow in any 2-day period. From 1917 to 1978, no storms of this intensity were observed. This is about as big as it gets in the home of Skyline Chili.

(1) 18.3 inches, 2/4/1998-2/5/1998

(2) 14.4 inches, 1/6/1996 - 1/7/1996

(3) 11.5 inches, 12/8/1917 - 12/9/1917

(4) 11.3 inches, 1/16/1978 - 1/17/1978

(5) 11.0 inches, 2/17/1910 - 2/18/1910

(6) 10.7 inches, 3/7/2008 - 3/8/2008

(7) 10.6 inches, 1/5/2025 - 1/6/2025

Uh...Yeah. That 1.0" southwest of FWA is my total depth. I actually only totaled 0.3" from the storm. The other 0.7" was from the previous system. That being said, it's nice that Southern IN cashed in. All hail King Euro

Everyone rips on the Euro since it's definitely not as good as it used to be, but it still schools the GFS 90% of the time.  GFS had 1-3" of snow up to I-80 all the way up to near the event which was clearly lol worthy.

It was brutal. Those little bumps of 5.8 and 6 right next to .2 is where I am. We ended up with 6 that I measured. I drove about 2 miles East and there was grass. We had a bit of a TROWAL or Defo set up over us for a couple of hours very early in the morning. We got 4 of the 6 in that 3 hour period from 2 to 5am. KIND was mentioning this possibility the day before. Great snow for our southern brethern that are so often just spectators. Ya'll got more coming!
