That’s better than bare ground when it’s going to be below freezing for an extended period like we’re going to be. Definitely. I have nearly 4" on the ground. We got about 3" on 31st & 1st. Elevation and banding was perfect for you and northern oakland NYE. Most of SE MI has a dusting on the ground. Our 0.6 today was our largest since Dec 23. It has settled some.

You're actually in a great spot for W flow lake effect. Lake Michigan is narrow west of here so that's the worst wind direction to get Lake Michigan stuff around here. Maybe Monday's NE and N flow can get some Lake Huron stuff here.

Yes this area just very NE Livingston and NW Oakland is wonderful for LES snow. I estimate 15"-20" of snow around here is due to the great lakes. roardog I am watching this expected Monday NNE flow. Hoping it works out good for you. I have occasionally gotten some (inch or two) from Huron but it has to be just right to do it
cyclone77
Snow departures are going to be growing larger over the next 3 weeks. MLI down over 9", Dubuque now down over 10". Should both be 15+" down by the time an appreciable snow system arrives.

michsnowfreak
It's wild to see how lake effect snow sublimated with temps so cold. After 0.6" of fluff yesterday I currently only have specs of white on the ground. Cold and dry with some flakes looks to continue.

andyhb
That storm in the latter part of next week has major potential if it can phase with the northern stream a bit as it ejects. 5 1

At best, *IF* everything aligns perfectly, it's going to be a Southern Plains and maybe Mid-Mississippi / Lower Ohio Valley special. With the blocking in the Atlantic and how progressive the trough will be, I don't think it's going to come together with meaningful impact for the majority of this subforum. It's more likely that it ends up being a strung out cold rainstorm for the Gulf Coast.

Just a few inches of synoptic snow. Don't forget these some northern stream likely too.
Brian D
-10's to -sd's this morning with sd's inland to around 10 on the lakeshore this aftrn. Wind chills away from the lake running -20 to -30. Pretty much the same wx for the next few days. All the action staying S for now, so enjoy it while the potential lasts. While no big storms, I have been able to be nickel and dime frequently. Hopefully we can move into a bigger snow/stormier pattern in the new few weeks.
buckeye
Since the current storm has gone from model watching to radar watching, we turn to the next threat in under a week. to my novice eyes this looks like it’s a few tweaks from being something special for our sub. As it stands now it’s favoring a later phase and becomes a New England bomb.

michsnowfreak
A slight car coating of freezing drizzle this morning, and now some snow dust from Lake Huron. This is how cold/dry patterns work in the Great Lakes outside the snowbelt. Since Nov 28th, a period of 40 days, Detroit has seen snowflakes fall on 25 of those 40 days...with 5.8" to show for it. Brian D
Early data in for Dec. Chalk up another warm one. As for the Annual data, currently running 4th warmest, just a few hundredths behind 1998. Decent chance it slips into 3rd after all datasets have reported. 5 & 10 yr trend charts shown respectively. Spartman
Had our biggest snow of the season so far this year over the past couple of days. A couple days of suicide weather ahead. The only day for any sun this week looks to be Thursday followed by a long crappy weekend, though we are probably pushing for a very long overcast stretch. One of those weeks this week.
