We need a paradigm shift in health care, child care, elderly care, and our college education system. Privatization and the constant push for bigger profits are bleeding us dry. Attacking and dismantling the government is the completely wrong focus. Obviously perpetuated by greedy or stupid people. Quality of life is much higher in other western countries. The model being pushed on us is Russia (everyone for themselves... wealthy-elite controlled society).

then we need to cap prices in many areas.... did you hear about the 22 yr old who died because he couldn't afford his asthma medication even though he had a $19/hr job, because the price was jacked up from 66 per month to 539 per month? Prices on asthma drugs are now capped at 35 per month but not in time to save his life.

There are many smart people who have come up with really clever changes/improvements to rebuild our healthcare system in an effective and efficient manner. We know what it would take. And many of us have been trying to implement those needed changes. Guess who keeps blocking it?

All you have to offer is "government is bad." That's not a viewpoint. It's just pure ignorance. You don't even know what government is, why we have it, or what its role or purpose is. You don't even know all the ways in which government benefits you. You are just childish and simple. How can there be a debate if you are not capable of advancing a rational viewpoint?

The countries you mentioned at the top also have the most longevity, the highest literacy rates, the highest quality food and the best education and healthcare systems.

maybe if we weren't meddling in parts of the world we have no business being in we wouldn't need a national security budget of that size.

That doesn't even make sense. Do I need to remind you that Finland and Sweden just joined NATO? Or that these Sweden, Norway, and Finland all have strong militaries? Or that NATO relies heavily on them due to their proximity to Russia and their modern air forces? Have you ever even traveled outside the US? Outside NJ?

It used to be that everyone got a fair chance, I assumed they were smart enough and agreeable enough to communicate and work with until they proved otherwise. Now I go into things expecting to be disappointed hoping they prove themselves to not be ignorant and disagreeable. At least I'm not troubled by it when I give up and walk away.

Some people also seem to be under the mistaken impression that whatever happens somehow won't affect them.

But they are very very wrong.

The sad irony is in their effort to handicap effective governance they are actually enabling authoritarianism.  And don't even realize it.

I don't know everything. I count on other intelligent, thoughtful, hard working people with expertise, knowledge, and experience to analyze problems and offer solutions. We have to use science, facts, and evidence. Not emotion, gut instinct, and ideology. "Government is bad"  "Taxes are bad" "Immigrants are bad" Those are not useful ideas or solutions. They are just a sign that you are being manipulated... getting played by other people who know how to use your ignorance for their gain.
