On a related note, I'm determined to actually watch my iPhone or desktop clock jump from 1:59 to 3:00 tonight.  I'll let you know how it goes.

If you miss it and end up throwing your phone, at least you’ll see time fly.

I’ll be making love with my wife at the clock change.  At my age it is the only time all year I can still go for over an hour.

BTW, we did the same thing when the millennium changed.  Try and beat that.

I wonder if Volcanic Winter can shed some light on whether the Alaskan Volcano potential eruptions on MSN is just "overblown" hooey?

we'll find out tonight.

If that total lunar eclipse can be seen and it's exceptionally dark it means there are particles in the stratosphere that could lead to a global cooling trend which might have impacts on this summer and next winter.

If the eclipse is bright red it means our stratosphere is clean and there is no impact.

I've been following this company on X. They are sending up balloons with sulfur. Of course, at this point, the amounts are orders of magnitudes too small to have any measurable impact on the climate. It's a great idea though. Maybe I need to find a partner?

Yes they've been experimenting in the New Mexico desert.

Wait, you want to partner with them?

There are several governments looking to join in, likely by 2030.

I'm all in on this idea. Let's be real climate change is a global problem, not a specific country problem. I don't care how many initiatives and policies the West implements, even if we went 100% greenhouse gas free China alone accounts for a third of global emissions, so what's the point of we give other places a pass to pollute?

And no they should not be given time to catch up on polluting the Earth lol, you think the Earth gives a crap who's polluting and when they started?

So I only see geo engineering as a practical solution to this global problem.

It's actually feasible to cool the Earth back to preindustrial levels by annual releases of aerosols in the stratosphere, and the cost would be something like 20 to 40 billion dollars, a drop in the bucket.

I hope this takes off and we go all in on this.

Yeah this is why I'm also against countries in the Global South and other developing countries be allowed to *catch up*-- this is a global climate emergency and nature doesn't give a shit about politics or income level or region of the world.

bug lover here. even the earwigs get to live

Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out ways to keep these giant carpenter bees out that enter my house every Spring.

I don't hurt them or anything. I just close the door and leave for an hour or two; when I come back, they're always gone.  They must be smart enough to know how to leave on their own.

How do you feel about those 3 inch centipedes that like to live in the home?

glue traps stop them right in their tracks (literally)

how do they get inside?

I got the glue traps originally to catch mice but the cats and this giant hawk that visits my back yard got rid of the mice and now the glue traps have a secondary function, they catch centipedes without me ever having to see them.  A dead centipede looks a lot less scary (and smaller) than a live one!

friends

They're useless though.

Why can't we train birds to eat all these bugs? Instead they are being lazy and just singing.

If we could implant a control device on a bird's head and tell it to eat all wasps, centipedes, spiders and carpenter bees, that would be great!

I have no idea how they get in.

It's really aggravating, I've been battling them for many years.

They're literally aliens. Hideous creatures.

They're not even insects and they're much older than dinosaurs.  The big asteroid couldn't even take them out lol.  Ours are bad, but if you lived in South America or South Asia, OMG, they're the size of snakes there and really vicious.  They eat rats and when they sting you it feels like your blood is boiling (literally!)
