It is, but the place for anger and disrespect is in OT.

This obviously isn't going to work. This banter threat is just going to turn into another OT. Most people here don't even look at that toxic OT because they don't want to see people fighting in a nasty way with each other over politics. Sad if we're going to have that in the NYC forum now. I hope Rjay and BxEngine will change their minds.

Of course there is the option of not even looking at this banter thread anymore. I think many will do that, but it's a shame for people that would like to participate with weather banter or banter on lighter subjects.

This is why we can't have nice things.

"Disrespect" is subjective. The moderators have ruled (against my recommendation) that they will allow these discussions here.

I tend to think it is necessary to address these issues in all public forums.

I would kind of like this to be an active place for locals to carry out essential political discussion. But I'm personally likely to move onto other things soon. And there is little sustained interest in this kind of thing. Most people use twittergram or whatever anyway. You can breath easy... the banter thread will live on as normal.

It's a shame this thread has been hijacked by kook nation.  I always enjoyed it as a fun escape.

Calm down. It's just a temporary break from your regularly scheduled (mindless) programming. Are you referring to me as a kook, or someone else? What have I said this is kooky?

It obviously hasn’t snowed much this winter, but has it felt colder this year more so than recent winters, and colder more often and consistently?

Or is it more just recency bias from warmer winter being more often now?

Just thought of that today as it was chilly out and looks chilly on my phone forecast.

It was a Winter Storm Warning, for 4-8" of snow, and the NWS never backed off, still believing it was going to be snow.  Started off as rain in the greater NYC metro area, turned to snow, then to sleet. My notes say it was a low pressure from the Gulf, moved to Hatteras, then just off the Li shore...

Very nasty sleet too IIRC. There were two such sleet storms that year, one on Valentine's, a real disappointment but it was modeled to do so for the city; other areas got dumped on.

Its been colder this year; in 20 years my sump pump pipe has never frozen, we had cold days and I'd have a glacier of ice around it but it never froze solid. This year it did due to the prolonged cold. And because my outlet is below ground, there is nothing I can do; the backup pump dumps the water right at the side of the house; where is seeps into the ground and pours right back into the cracks near the pipe in the wall, and right back into the sump pit. Thank God is has not rained much. I do have another pump on the other side of the basement that works, don't know if that helps much.

Nothing. But it can quickly devolve. There is a propaganda machine the likes of which Goebbels would have been in awe of. Trying to argue with folks is like banging your head on concrete anymore. Nonetheless, I do think the poster you responded to is not one of those.

we usually have a lot more 50 degree days by now.  It's rare to get this long of a break from mild weather even during the winter.

NASA officials now report a 2.4% chance of an asteroid striking Earth in 2032, up from 2.3% few days ago. This equates to a 1 in 42 chance of impact, with a 97.6% likelihood that the asteroid will miss. The asteroid is estimated to be between 130 and 330 feet in diameter.

2.4% is actually horrifying to me.
