No idea what CPK will do and, to be honest, I’ve long stopped considering that measurement. Close enough for the 3-inches-in-December-Niñas rule? A February HECS is waiting on the zookeeper. This one is on its last legs as it dessicates its way eastward. Oh well. Can probably round this one up to 0.1", but it's a dusting here. Liquid equivalent was a trace. Snow depth = 1” current temp 31⁰ Short range models did quite well with most of the details. Alas, placement was off by a few miles on the north shore but otherwise they were nearly spot on.

Roads are very slippery with no melting during this event, which was mostly at 26-27F. This gives me about 2.5" in the front yard, which gets more sun, and 3" in the backyard, which is shadier, so a white Christmas (more than 1/2" OTG at 7 am Christmas morning, technically) is a guarantee. 1.1" + 3.3" the other day and 0.3" in a few small dustings earlier this winter = 4.7", which is about normal for December (NYC's mean snowfall is 4.9", while New Brunswick's is 4.7") and we're unlikely to get more this month. Wow, you're lucky to have so little melting where you are. Here in Piscataway a lot of lawns were bare before this morning's event. My front lawn (which gets a ton of sun) had almost no snow left ... just a few tiny patches. My back lawn (which is much shadier) did have over an inch in spots. We'll have to see if today's inch lasts this afternoon with the sun coming out and it getting up to the upper 30s. I doubt it will in sunny spots. Does it count as a white Christmas if the back lawn has snow but the front lawn doesn't? LOL. Unlike where you live, here it's going to be a mix with some ground covered with snow and some not having any. It'll be nice to at least have some in spots though.

I wish there was a device that was permanently mounted in the ground that would save the deepest depth of snow during a given storm. I know it wouldn't be the best way to measure snow but such an automated device would be far better than what they do there now. Snowfall measuring is the one weather thing that still requires a human, might as well automate it too.
