PowellVolz
Haven’t seen this mentioned recently because of the cold and a little snow but it’s getting kinda dry again. Last thing we need is to head into warmer months without a surplus in the rain gauge.

*Flash*
On this day 25 years ago, the Carolina Crusher struck putting down 2’ along an unusual corridor east of the Apps and generally west of 95 up through northern VA. Didn’t realize until today the busted forecast led to the creation of WPC!
Holston_River_Rambler
How are we feeling about this Sunday night critter? I know we've kind of talked around it, but there have been some developments: RGEM: NAM HRRR and RAP have it too, but zi can't make a gif. Overperformer? MRX going with an inch or two above 3000 feet. Time of day (overnight looks good). Will John get at least an inch? Might be good for Bristol and JC too? Jed33 Posted yesterday at 12:08 AM Share Posted yesterday at 12:08 AM 12z GFS started to show it, but the 18z came on strong. Looks almost too robust! Lays down a 1-3in in east TN along and north of I 40
Carvers Gap Posted yesterday at 04:34 AM Share Posted yesterday at 04:34 AM The 0z GFS and NAM have that sneaky system Monday. The RGEM doesn't have it at all. Something to watch. Nothing big, but interesting for those north of 40.
1234snow
Every model is trending upwards with QPF overnight and in the morning. I think north of I-40 may be in for a surprise in the morning. No products issued yet by Morristown.
John1122
Some of the short range models are ticking up. The NBM isn't yet and that's what MRX uses basically exclusively.

Snow and ice also look to be on tap. If the GFS is correct, we may still get there, but later. Looks like the euro won this battle. We didn’t score as much with the snow and ice (what’s new), but we didn’t totally blank either. Pretty much all of TN saw at least some snow. With the EPS/GPS showing the way back toward something workable around mid February, while the GFS charts its own way…… guessing the GFS will be 0-2 here in a couple of weeks.

John1122
Did MRX really say that surfaces are too warm for anything but grassy accumulations because of the last two days? It was 12 degrees yesterday morning and 19 this morning. I still have snow on the ground and sides of the road in shady spots. 5
Jed33
That is what they said. This afternoon, I wondered if the soil was still frozen below the very top layer. Raked it back and sure enough it’s frozen. Won’t take very much snow or ice falling to re freeze the top layer again. I’m not sure they are thinking about the leftover effects of the extended cold we just had. At any rate, I have very little elevation here, so I will likely see only snow in the air and be at 33/34 degrees but I still have snow in the shade around here in places. There’s places on the lake bed near the water with snow still. It evidently drifted into holes and low places. I kid you not I found a place yesterday and poked through the ice, it was almost 6in deep still, and that down by the water. Granted it’s scattered around in sections here and there, but it’s still here.

John1122
I think ground temps are probably cold enough to stick, especially in the mountains around here.

bearman
Here in West Knoxville my temp has dropped fast. Even under cloud cover I went from 51 to 42 in the last 3 hours. Don't know if it will be enough but I am surprised. I am sure north of us and with a little elevation things should stick with any rates.

jaxjagman
No chance of snow here, thermals are to warm and when it gets cold enough its low PWS and dry air so the moisture has moved out
