MANDA
The lack of upcoming precipitation (rainfall) for the next 7-10 days means the obscene amounts of road salt are going to linger. Out driving on Route 80, and other local roads today and it was a literal dust cloud at times. SO MUCH salt, what a freaking mess. Was at a strip mall and I really felt bad for the store owners. Excessive amounts of salt all over the sidewalks being carried into their stores. You can tell the walks were mostly dry and snow free when the salt was dumped. It is just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. Carry on. I just needed to complain. 2
MANDA
My largest snowfall this season to date was 6.5" back in November. New Orleans and other locations have surpassed that today. Crazy.

I don't remember this being this way when we were younger. They would use a salt/sand/gravel mix, and do it as needed, rather than dump it all at once and make this huge mess. Also makes me wonder where the hell they will continue mining all of this salt from? I was also under the impression the brine was supposed to help with this. Doesn't seem to do a thing. Are these only for NE storms? I know there’s a near miss category but this isn’t a near miss. For that swath from Houston to Cape Hatteras this would be a Cat 6 winter storm lol.

I have to assume it’s as lousy for the environment and nearby water ways as the salt..

I go through the same thing here, as I'm on the community HOA. I have harped on the excess salt, as it's bad for the driveways, kills the surrounding grass, and is bad for the dogs walking too. And then I'm lectured by other board members about potential litigation. Damn lawyers. At some point, rain is wet, and ice is slippery. Reasonable treatment is warranted. What we do now is atrocious and an environmental disaster. Sorry, Manda's post triggered me!

Can't talk about sun angle, that snow stuck around for an entire week and we had another snow event a week later. Still one of my favorite blizzards of all time. Probably the most lightning that I have seen with a snow event. That storm with the 3 consecutive record lows would have been an impressive April event even during the Little Ice Age.
