yes, whining about rainy day 10 OP runs is grounded and realistic

Posting about a rainstorm that's showing up on multiple models is less realistic than posting about some fantasy snowstorm? Why can't we just talk about weather without hyping anything? The reality is that it hasn't snowed much this month and likely won't for at least another 10 days. Oh wait I forgot we have flurries tomorrow morning to get excited about

Bad idea especially during inclement weather - you want your kid leaving for school at 7 am in the dark ?

When I began teaching in the late 80s there were a lot of mid career teachers who had been working when they kept daylight savings time in the early 70s to save on energy ( IIRC ). One told me they'd sit there in first period and watch the sunrise....no one liked it one bit.

acknowledging that the upcoming pattern is cold and active isn’t hype at all. maybe we have to endure a little rain. not a huge deal and it isn’t indicative of the pattern not being conducive for snow

also, neither are realistic. i don’t think any of you have seen me posting long range OP runs regardless of the outcome

Why isn't it realistic that it would rain during a period of moderation? All 3 models have shown a similar solution which is now about 8 days away

If there are signs that is changing and we could get snow instead I'll post that too

try and make sense out of this: Winters around here are impossible to predict snowfall in advance

i mean, the angst over it is a bit much considering that the initial wave likely drags the baroclinic zone south. that’s common in these -EPO patterns. a two day warmup and a little rain before a potential colder storm isn’t an indictment on a pattern that does look cold and legitimately active

who knows, that initial wave could also trend flatter. it’s 8 days out

Dusting to an inch

I guess all of you aren't snow weenies. I get excited over an inch.

Yes remember well.  Perhaps just keep it the way it is.  Its dark for the early highschool busses already from 545 - 720.  Its the younger grades that are impacted between 730 and 8 if remaining on DST.

No, we should also pass a law that bans any school from starting before 9 am

my sons are in high school and they walk to the bus in the dark at 6:55am.   Couldn't imagine the younger kids doing that.   We don't run busses for 1/2 of an inch of snow I can't imagine younger kids going 3 months in the dark

see I blame the school for this, no self respecting school would begin that early.  School should be from 9 am to 4 pm that's it.

Agreed but you have elementary, middle and high school...staggered start times are needed for busses.   The town would have to triple its bus fleet to start everyone at 9

For historical reference: NYC's coldest winter with less than 10.0" seasonal snowfall. Winter 1900-01: DJF mean temperature: 31.9°; Seasonal snowfall: 9.1"

Outstanding Don!

What about since 1970, Don?

What about NYC's coldest month with less than 3 inches of snow, Don? (and since 1970?)

and triple the amount of school bus drivers - plus how are school crossing guards going to deal with working in the dark ?
