NWS reported 4.0" at the Airport. It hasn't commented yet on higher snowfall figures in and around the New Orleans area.

Did the measurement have a Time? Curious to see how long ago it was as they've had heavy snow for a while now.

Ensembles and for example 18Z GFS show a pattern that is potentially very clipper favorable, we might finally see one impact the area in the next 2 weeks

BUT what are the tracks of these clippers ???? I see on the GFS op only ones that pass north of us with little moisture here..........

That's due to the moderating influence of Lake Champlain, or possibly hot air blowing in froOttawa, I presume. /jk

The RGEM had that modeled well

The lack of upcoming precipitation (rainfall) for the next 7-10 days means the obscene amounts of road salt are going to linger.  Out driving on Route 80, and other local roads today and it was a literal dust cloud at times.  SO MUCH salt, what a freaking mess.  Was at a strip mall and I really felt bad for the store owners.  Excessive amounts of salt all over the sidewalks being carried into their stores.  You can tell the walks were mostly dry and snow free when the salt was dumped.  It is just sitting there doing absolutely nothing.

Carry on.  I just needed to complain.

At this point I'd take a cutter with 1 to 2" of rain rather than cold and dry

Agreed, it's gross, and terrible for our vehicles.  OH, and the environment too.  This can't be good.
I don't remember this being this way when we were younger.  They would use a salt/sand/gravel mix, and do it as needed, rather than dump it all at once
and make this huge mess.
Also makes me wonder where the hell they will continue mining all of this salt from?
I was also under the impression the brine was supposed to help with this.  Doesn't seem to do a thing.

Wonder if this will be considered a KU? Are these only for NE storms? I know there’s a near miss category but this isn’t a near miss. For that swath from Houston to Cape Hatteras this would be a Cat 6 winter storm lol.

Mon capitan, my assumption is that it’s based on avoiding litigation, and yea, the brine… what’s the point? NJ seems to love it and it seems like a complete waste. I have to assume it’s as lousy for the environment and nearby water ways as the salt.

CT outlawed sand a few years back-so it seems like they toss more salt to compensate.   It's crazy how much is put down these days

Sand is more work, have to clean it up after storms and it gets in catch basins.

I go through the same thing here, as I'm on the community HOA.  I have harped on the excess salt, as it's bad for the driveways, kills the surrounding grass, and is bad for the dogs walking too.
And then I'm lectured by other board members about potential litigation.  Damn lawyers.  At some point, rain is wet, and ice is slippery.  Reasonable treatment is warranted.  What we do now is atrocious and an environmental disaster.  Sorry, Manda's post triggered me!  :D

Sent you a message so as to not derail the board.

Is this more rare than the April 1982  Blizzard? Can't talk about sun angle, that snow stuck around for an entire week and we had another snow event a week later.

Still one of my favorite blizzards of all time. Probably the most lightning that I have seen with a snow event. That storm with the 3 consecutive record lows would have been an impressive April event even during the Little Ice Age.
