I don't think one cold month can be used to say that we are back to an 80's pattern?  I'll take cold air anytime, and hope for a major snowstorm in between cold snaps, especially with that nasty persistent warm Pacific jet looming...

it's been happening for the last 3 years though, this thing has a cycle that we haven't identified yet. Maybe AMO related.

the dryness is a continuation of what was established last fall.

honestly, it's far more historic for them, let them enjoy it, it would be just a moderate snowstorm up here anyway

Yeah i am actually excited to see snow fall in no,la and mobile al. Not to mention northern florida, for most americans period, it is a first in their lifetime witnessing it. Personally i have never seen it snow in new orleans and im 41.

Newark got 11" then 6 hours of heavy sleet. Then a flip to rain before a changeover back to snow with 3" on top. It was like cement that didn't melt for a week

If it was all snow 24-28" would've been likely as they got 2.75" of liquid

Nice I was going to ask about this.  Did JFK get a similar amount of liquid? I'm amused that JFK got more snow than NYC in both March 1993 and February 1994 (second storm) even though both were changeover storms.

Very close to January 2016 out this way, we had 32 inches of snow on 3.00" of liquid

Really rare storm track with just enough cold in place along the Gulf Coast. The pattern leading up to the event wasn’t that cold in the area. There was an 81° record high a few weeks ago. It has been much warmer than the February 1895 was ahead of the previous record snow. Also notice how warm the nearby Gulf has been.
