OBS for NYC CP first measurable minor snowfall? 11A Fri 12/20-11A 12/21, embedded with surrounding area periodic minor accumulative snow

Nice to see the SREF plumes bust upwards for once. The last time I checked them, the mean was 0.78" for CP with most members clustered under it.

Absolutely shocked at what I woke up to. Just back from a Jebwalk through Riverside Park and while I didn’t measure I can confidently say we topped 2”.

Total here was 5.2”.  Water content of .37” is 14:1 ratio.  Over performance for many this event.  Seems like areas models were targeting for max amounts received the max amounts but they were higher than modeled by 2-3” in some cases.

Yeah feels like forever since I had to use a shovel. Snow actually stuck on pavement too which makes it feel like a real snowfall. A lot of the paltry snow totals of the last 2 years were grassy surfaces acclumation only. It matter for statistics but in urban areas, outside of a walk in a park, it's effectively 0"

Long Beach looks like it had 1-2” with nothing stuck on pavement from what I can see. Anyway we’ll see how temps recover with the sun coming out. If we don’t spike above freezing the sun likely won’t melt much. What melts will mostly come from the ground still being warm.

Similar ratio here, 3.3" melted down to .22" of liquid giving me 15:1.

We have only seen flurries and some light snow showers from these streamers.  These are not accumulating snows by any means.

Yea I had eyeballed 1.5 from my window but after taking a walk, I agree we/UWS were between 2-2.5

It stuck here on the sidewalks and the roads but the sun burning the asphalt melted it in short order.

If you got up early enough you saw it on the streets too.  It only melted when the sun came out,  it was still there until just before 9 AM.

This is more of a trivia thing Walt, but when was the last time we had an inch of snow between the first day of winter and Christmas and when it happened what percentage of the time did it result in a white Christmas?

Its been a great start to the season up here for those 40+ miles NW of the city. Most are in the 12-15" range with a few like yourself with even more due to that pre thanksgiving event.
