mahk_webstah
Deep winner is 5 inches of snow on the ground and 15° below zero. The wind and cloud conditions for much of January didn’t allow the lows to go very low so our mean temperature for the month is artificially high. In my opinion. It hasn’t been a bitter month, but it’s been a solidly cold month up here The gulf stream may be kissing and nuzzling the nape of Portsmouth, but it’s winter up here a few dozen miles to your west in the coastalplain. 1
jbenedet
Last week was worse with the wind. I think this week will fall to previous in real feel. We’ll get the lower lows at night but daytime real feel will be warmer.

As of Jan 20, KCON was +.9. It’s really not that cold. We’ve had such torch January's that make it seem like this is a cold month. We haven’t had that radiation cooling in the typical spots up until last night.

Yeah, fake or not, the temps still go in the books. Rad spots have it baked into climo. Those windy airmasses feel worse but dont produce decent lows in places like CON. The snowpack, while thin, also makes a big difference radiating.

The lack of snow cover and the wind is keeping the nighttime low higher than they would probably be. It’s not like it’s some cold wave but it’s definitely been a winter month for the most part. For me that’s defined more by what it’s like during the daytime hours when I’m awake then by how cold it gets at night.

WinterWolf
It’s not about the amounts many times..it’s about the visibility, and cold feel. Obviously for NE, Blizzards are big storms here for us. Midwest, and Louisiana lol that isn’t always the case(in Louisiana’s case have they ever had a blizzard warning?).
