Yeah no one's going to get excited until there's some eye candy on the operationals. I'm just glad we haven't been hearing the phrase, thread the needle much. That is a sure sign we are toast.

5 deg. With the fresh snow on the ground and these temps. It feels like winter, just don’t want to see the heating bill!

Historic cold so far this winter or not……can’t even buy average

Thanks for the photos, those are worth a post.

Interesting that up on Lake Champlain, places like Mallets Bay are frozen over with folks walking around out on the ice.  A ton of open water, but it’s been cold enough where the bays are freezing over.  Give it another month and see where the ice is at.

Is that really Lake George right now?

Yes this morning, would think we freeze this week but who knows it’s been too windy and overnight lows much above normal, hopefully changes this week with some actually cold calm nights, currently zero degrees

I will say this month has felt cold but the data says +2.4 here.  Wild.  It has been a cold January compared to the +5 to +8 winter months in recent years.

Yup. CON is +1.7F for Jan coming into today and that’s with 1991-2020 norms. This week will quickly chomp into that, but it hasn’t been very cold so far.

It has been a breezy and well-mixed month in regard to air masses.  That has led to warmer nights that cause the radiators to show higher anomalies.  Those without rad cooling baked into their normals have had lower departures

BTV with a lower departure than MVL and 1VP in January so far.  Despite the latter two spots being colder overall.

Nighttime lows have been held higher by wind but daytime highs maybe are below average

It’s been a struggle to go calm but also to get actually cold 850s. -15 isn’t very cold, those -35s in the upper Midwest are but will get modified by the lakes.  North of us  has been even warmer relative to average with the big negative NAO block.  It’s just been dry average and windy, lots of blah this year.  Last winter was much better so far and even warmer, lol.  Been a brutal pattern and winter so far.

The recent years definitely have altered my perception of “cold.”

This is exactly how I’m feeling in the seacoast NH. Much closer to normal. Slightly above. This week will probably put us very close to normal temp wise maybe even tilt us to slightly BN. That’s before the next big warmup though…

MPV was -+.9  I don’t think it’s felt all that cold and definitely there ha been no “historic” cold.  It has seemed pretty windy.  Even the little bit of snow last night drifted
