Sugarloaf Rainer for 3 days . Complete waste of time and money .

.

March is the time to go skiing up north. Can’t remember the last time the Xmas to New Years week was clean. Feels like it sucks or has some terrible days almost every year. Even going back to the glory years of winter that holiday week always seems to have problems.

Though in your defense, Sugarloaf is often far enough north that even some crappy setups still do well there.

This generally sums up Northeast skiing now.

The average lift ticket has doubled in price over the last 6 years, at least, some places more.

I love the hobby, but I’ve pretty much given it up at this point.

Yea. A big reason why I gave up going regularly every year. I know there are deals and locals know them best. I guess that’s how they want it up there though, keep the massholes and nyc dicks at bay. And when we do come around holidays, we’ll pay a premium for shitty conditions.

When I do go though, it’s March. Even April.

Buy a pass problem solved. Skiing can still be very affordable.

Lots of big cold in FL during the 80s. Time to blast Whitesnake, look into Kevin’s eyes and ask myself is this love that I’m feeling.

The 80’s definitely struggled for snowy weather but what a blast to spend your teen years! Some of you here are around my age - did anyone race BMX around New England during the 80’s heydays?
There were a ton of tracks in MA and I probably raced at all of them or at least all the NBL sanctioned ones. Met a lot of fun, like-minded kids during those years. Good times.

Yeah when NNE had the pre Christmas blitz I was thinking about a pow sesh at Jay, to my dismay, tickets are well over 100! It’s been a couple years since I’ve been up but I remember Jay being one of the last “affordable” major New England mts. We used to regularly get tickets for 60 bucks, not even sniffing that anymore.

isn't hfd one of those climo sites/thermometers that y'all are trying to indict as needing calibration ?

i'm noticing that altho december is ( so far ) below normal at the 4 sne majors, it's not hugely convincing. .ranging from -1 to -2 or so.  so yeah, it's fair.   perhaps not a bad achievement in this day and age when getting a month to neutral seems to be a challenge

but hfd is just -0.5 so precarious.  i'm wondering if that's suspect?

i was also wondering if might get warm enough during these next couple of days to pull that -0.5 to neutral - i guess now that it is the end of the month, there's a lot of weight there and it'd take a lot to move the needle so prolly not.

There was a BMX track in the same location as a motorcycle track in Southwick, MA.

For a somewhat weather related aspect, the BMX track was dry and sandy like beach sand and when we went to try and screw around on the motorcycle track, it was soft, deep and somewhat muddy. That track was also comparatively huge in relation. We were already breaking bones on BMX bikes so mom and dad were none to keen on jumping up to motorcycles

In the 90s I did and actually was number one in the state for my age group rookie class though.. Also was sponsored by custom cycle in Westfield but not even around anymore I don't think.. My brother announced at whip city BMX in Westfield for awhile

Nice! Westfield was a decent ride for us but we would make the trek for the state races. I actually won a Columbia BMX bike there in like 86-87 that I still have. I believe they were manufactured down in that area.
I remember racing during a rained out weekend there one year. Not fun on 1-1/4” tires!

33 and drizzle here this morning. I’m largely indifferent to most weather but 33 degree rain is essentially the top of the list for most disliked.

You would also think BDL would be running colder departures from ORH and BOS after the past few days of radiating cold. So yeah, there may be a little sensor error baked in.
