Yeah prob a lot of -6 to -8 type days. Average highs in SNE are in the low to mid 30s and a lot of days are going to be in the 20s for highs.

Not arctic cold but somewhat BN. That’s probably ideal though if you aren’t going to snow…it freezes all the ponds and keeps skiing in solid shape for the winter sports people while also not utterly destroying our heating bills and making it overwhelmingly uncomfortable outside.

It’ll be cold enough for any winter activities, and that’s a good thing.

If it’s not gonna snow, it’s a pretty good alternative imho. It’s just beyond boring though from a meteorological aspect.

I’m still hopeful one of the multitude of shortwaves rotating down between 1/10-1/15 takes hold. Would be nice to at least get a moderate event.

ot,

i just completed installation of my solar panels.   the roof area isn't quite large enough to fit another rack, so i'll have to be slaved to the grid still.  but the upshot is that the electric-econ account is a zero-sum-game thing... if your generating power and dumping it back into the grid, that offset still exists and ultimately you're paying less for electricity to a macro provider

most importantly to me ( other than that morality of going more and more green and lowering one's carbon footprint)  it releases the "ngrip" economic nuts clench.   no longer purchasing power through that legitimized enron ... with increasing areal coverage of solar parks, even the inclusion of wind farms ... to mention, private sector adoption of panel/power generation, ngrid was beginning to incur economic losses - so... naturally, they shift those losses onto anyone that is not employing alternate/renewable power.

what this means is that society has already crossed a threshold where we are being financially punished by not going green.  it's kind of interesting how greed and capitalism kind of creating it's own quasi carbon tax -

anyway, all that and spin/rationalization aside, winter is a horrible season if it is a 20s and 30s and endlessly dry.   it may be my personal druthers, but i just rather not even live here if it is going to be devoid of interesting meteorology, because that weather has zero redemption value for me.   and with the above interests then taking over, i'm likely to check out on this year earlier than my usual earliness ( mid feb), because i'd rather start spinnin' my electrical dial in the other way to see it all in action.

Jackman, lake Parlin

Looks like Pittston Farms opens tomorrow, but with a limited base not sure how good the trails will be, but they need to run a business and I can understand opening even if the terrain is limited. Not seeing anything open around Rockwood, Forks, etc, so probably only direction to ride will be towards Jackman and vice versa. Guy that owns Spruce Meadow cabins in Jackman says a lot of trees down. I'm sure it'll be a mob scene anyways.

If the state isn't harvesting at Seboomook, there's loads of logging roads that don't need deep snow to ride.

Idk…looks like sustained seasonable cold for a week+…nothing extreme though. It’s more like maritime arctic cold (or at least taint) wrapping around our way from the block.

Yeah I mean after the last 2 Jan's it's a pretty  solid stretch of sustained winter like cold. It would be a great stretch if we had a snowpack to maintain.

Does look colder across NNE at times, especially for the upslope areas. Lots of deep mixing and downsloping on this side of the terrain.

That's exactly what I was thinking, seasonably cold.  I wish I had more snow on the ground for snowmobiling, snowshoeing etc. but it is what it is.
