In winters past, we'd watch the snow,
A blanket white, a powdery glow.
But now, three years with grounds so bare,
We're left to wonder, where? Oh where?

The joy of flakes, the cold embrace,
Lost to time, perhaps a trace, never graced.
We long for winter's frosty kiss, Disappointed, we reminisce.

See you in May for thunder.

Absolutely useless cold. My 2 year old last night asked me to read her Winter Things by Dr. Suess and she goes “Dad - I want to play in the snow.”

Poor kid.

Beyond useless and the wind just makes things extra painful. We've had way better snow patterns in torch winters

How long will it take for you to break even?

If you buy/finance it usually 7-10yrs depending on the size of home and panels but if you lease or PPA, then the savings are immediate and increase over time as electricity costs climb at a higher rate then your lease.

Are we capped in CT in terms of what we're paid for that we return to the grid?  I understand there is no cap in Massachusetts.

7 years was projected but the electricity rates rose a lot so it is 6 years now.  Its great and we have an electric vehicle and a hybrid...so savings on gas is additional.  Do it before they end the tax breaks.

On consumption or investment?

Just got mine installed, 30 panels.  If it's sunny, I'm producing more than my household consumes, even this time of year, with me running heat pumps.  Overcast, not so much.  We're also facing near due south with almost no shade, so that helps.

Investment wise I'm looking at a 5 year return at best, 7 at worst for everything (solar and pumps).  Best part of the pumps will be the cooling.  Stoked.

I’m not sure. I’m by no means an expert. Just someone who’s researched and wants solar but needs to redo the roof first.

So electricity prices went up but…natural gas prices didn’t. In fact it’s one of the only commodities that’s the same price as 20 years ago…It’s very cheap assuming your system is efficient. Also it’s a tough deal when your energy production is lowest when it’s winter and especially when it’s cloudy. That’s when your energy usage is highest, outside of maybe a severe heatwave. Do you have a backup system?

My driers are all also nat gas…

We are sitting on a ton of nat gas in the US and you greenies are helping that out further by removing future demand…

I drive a hybrid, so don’t get at me.

Just watched a video of a guy who built his "forever" home in Mass using solar and geothermal and big batteries.  He is producing more electricvity that he uses (including for his car) and over 30 years expects to save $300k once his investment is paid off. Pretty unique situation.  Took advantage of a lot of tax credits, rebates, etc.
